Gene Potts ..Charter member Alpha Phi Alpha To Observe Annual Founder’s Day The local chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha will be observing the annual founder's day of the 79-year-old fraternity, on Sunday, December 8, beginning at 5 p.m. The observance will take place at McDonald's Cafeteria. The national fraternity was founded on the campus of Cornell University. Beta Nu Lambda, the local chapter was founded in 1939 by eight Charlotte fraternity men, of whom Eugene Potto is one. In celebrating founder’s day, the local chapter will present as its guest speaker, former general president Lionel- H. Newsom. Dr. Newsom* president emeritus -of Central Stole University is well known in the Charlotte education and business communities where he served in higher education at Johnson C. Smith University and Barber Scotia College. Having addressed the conditions of minority Americans in their quest for freedom and dignity, Newsom is expected to rekindle the fire within the fraternal brothers to continue to lead in social and economic developments for the betterment of human kind. CPCC Honor Society Twelve Mecklenburg County stu dents were inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa national honor so ciety at Central Piedmont Com munity College this month.
