May 25. 1989 - THE CHARLOTTE POST - Page llA Carowinds Celebrates Memorial Day CHARLOTTE - Carowinds theme park will celebrate the Memorial Day Weekend with ex tended operating da}ra and spe cial evfents that Include a Feunlly Beach Party with big-name beach bands in RlpTlde Reef on Memorial Day, Monday, May 29. The 83-acres theme park wlU be open Friday, May 26, and Monday, May 29, as well as its regular Saturday and Sunday o{)eratlon during Memorial Day Weekend. On Monday, May 29, Carow inds, along with Magic 96 radio, will present, some of the biggest names in beach music when the park hosts a Family Beach Par ty in its new RipTlde Reef themed area. Jhe Family Beach Party be- gips' at 3 p.m. on MemorlEd Day arid will continue until the park closes at 8 p.m. .Appearing at the Carowinds Family Beach Party will be the legendary Chairman of the Board featuring General John son, Band of Oz, The Catalinas and The East Coast Rivleras. The Beach Party is free to p>ark guests who will be able to enjoy the Racing Rivers speed slides, Carolina Pipeline tube slides. Tidewater Bay wave pool and the rest of the new six-acre Rip- Tide Reef while listening to pop ular beach bands. The Chairman of the Board and General Johnson are known by beach music lovers every- Carowlnds opens at 10 a.m. and will be open until 9 p.m. on Ftlday, Msy 26, 10 p.m. on Satur day, May 27, and 8 p.m. Sunday and Monday, May 28-29. Elxcept for the extended Memo- Chairmen of the Board where for such beach favorites as "Give Me Just A Little More Time," "Eveiythlng's Tuesday" and "Chcdrman of the Board."
