Joined In the suit Is Green- man Brothers, Inc., Circus World's parent corporation op erating out of Farmlngdale, N.Y. A complaint filed In the U.S. District Court for the Western District of North Carolina, Shelby Division, alleges that Circus World and Greenman Brothers, In their facility locat ed In the Cleveland Mall off U.S. Highway 74 East near Shelby, violated Title VII when they dis charged Doris Grier, a black fe male, as manager on account of her race. According to R. Edison Elkins, director of the EEOC's Charlotte District Office, the complaint al leges that the charging party was dismissed from her position as store manager because she Is black. Evidence suggests that the defendants decided to ac quiesce to the racial prejudice of a few customers and satisfy cus tomer expectations of dealing with a white store manager. In doing so the defendants partici pated In racial discrimination. which Is a violation of Title 'Vll of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, 42 US Code Section 2000e et seq. The Equal Employment Op portunity Commission Is the Federal Agency which enforces Title VII, which prohibits dis crimination against employees because of their race, color, re ligion, sex, or national origin.
