Smith Univer sity students, Alisa Genelle Mitchell and Jimmie Hayes Smith Jr., will spend the sum mer studying abroad. Alisa has been admitted as a visiting stu- (^ent to study at The American University of Paris for a year while Jimmie will study at the Gruppe Max Plank Institute In West Germany. Alisa, an English major from Roxboro, North Carolina, Is a rising senior. She is a member of the Alpha Chi National Honors Scholarship Society; Alpha Kappa Sigma Chapter of Alpha Mu Honor Society: recipient of the Outstanding French Award, '87 and '89; and a member of the Dean's List, '86-'89. She has also been an Honors Student eveiy year thus far at JCSU. Alisa says, "I am really excited about going overseas to Paris." Alisa, who has also received citations for outstanding journalism and feature writing from such pre stigious firms and universities as Quill & Scroll and The Co lumbia School of Journalism, plans to work In the corporate or political arena. She also lists the law profession as a possibil ity as well. Alisa will report to The American University of Par is In September. Jimmie Hayes Smith Jr. Is a 21-year-old rising senior at JCSU. He Is a native of West End, North Carolina, and is the new JCSU student body presi dent. He is the '89 Undergradu ate Student of the Year for the Middle Eastern Province of Kap pa Alpha Psl Fraternity. Jimmie is a (MARC) Mlnorlly Access to Research Careers and (MBRS) Minority Biological Research Support Scholar. Jimmie is also an >U1-CIAA Band member. Res idence Hall president, and a member of the Dean's List and Honors college. Jimmie has been published In the Journal of Toxicology and Biomedical Science and will be conducting biological research with some of West Germany's top biologists and chemists. Alisa and Jimmie are just two of the outstanding students at Johnson C. Smith University. Others are working with the U.S. State Department deciding be tween attending Harvard or the University of North Carolina Law School entering medical school at Meharry and Duke, etc. Alisa Mitchell and Jimmie Smith are the only Johnson C.
