June 29, 1989 Murphy Roast: Night Of Fun Charlotte's radio super star Skip Murphy Is going to get a dose of his own medicine and his top-rated radio audience Is Invited to watch him take It. Murphy, host of WPEC-FM's morning show called "Skip Mur phy and His 98 Cast of Crazies," Is being featured In the Skljj Murphy Roast, Dinner and Dance at the Adam's Mark Hotel, Friday uly 28. This special night Is sponsor^ by Domino's Pizza with proceeds to beneiit £ , the McCrorey ^ Branch YMCA In Charlotte. Tickets for the exciting event are $35 per person. They can be purchased at WPEG In Concord, at WPEG/WGIV Sales office In the WGIV building on Toomey Ave. at Remount Rd., or at the McCro rey Branch YMCA at 3801 Beatties Ford Rd. The night's program features a cast of Its own star-studded per- '* sonalitles, politicians and public Rgures, along with some sports heroes. The Roast kicks off with a 6:30 reception to introduce a spe cial video about McCrorey Y produced by WPEG and con- - trlbuted to the Y for promotion al purposes. Dinner will be served at 7:30 p.m. with the roasting beginning at 8:15 p.m. A big dance from 10p.m. until 1 a.m. caps off the evening. The dance will feature live music by the popular band. Radio sportscaster Gil McGregor, the color anal}rst for Hornets games on radio and a former NBA player from Wake Forest University, will Join Littles. Other roasters will Include the Murphy-maligned WPEG News Director Samantha Thompson; Vanessa Greene, Director of the Afro-American Cultural Center; I.arry Jordan, manager of Flight Mecklenburg County Commis sioner Bob Walton, Charlotte native and nationally recog nized songwriter-producer Son ny Moore, and Urban League President Madine Hester Falls also join the cast of roasting crazies.
