Juty 6. 1989 WEDDINGS& ENGAGEMENTS ' u* Rice And Owens Exchanged Wedding Vows linda Morrison Min^o Morrison And Mingo Unite In Marriage Linda Kaye Morrison and Dar ryl L. Mingo Joined In holy mat rlmony on June 10th. The 4 p.m. ceremony took place at Mount Carmel Baptist Church In Charlotte, and was ofilclated by Rev. Leon C. Riddick, the pas tor. Linda Is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Morrison, Sr., and Darryl Is the son of Mrs. Jean Bruton and the late Frank Bru ton, Sr. Music was provided by pianist and soloist Terry Oates, who Is a minister of music at Salem Bap tist Church. He sang "Flesh of My Flesh". Also soloist Natasha Feaster sang "From This Day Forward" and "Lord's Prayer". The matron of honor was the sister of the bride. Mrs. Inez Brown of Charlotte. Ms. Tara Satterfield of Columbia, South Carolina was the maid of honor. The bridesmaids Included: Ms. Diane Finch, Ms. Christine Morrison, Ms. Patricia Carter who are all sisters of the bride, and Ms. Yolanda Brown, the bride's niece. The flower girl was Miss Yavonne Johnson. Mr. Anthony Bruton, the groom's brother, was the best man. The groomsmen Included: Mr. William Johnson, Mr. Wil liam Pickens, Mr. Dexter Feast er, mr. Robert Cunningham, and Mr. Dennis Frazier. Justin Finch and Roncheke Morrison, nephews of the bride, were the rlngbearers. The lighter of the candles and the carpet puller were Kamadlo Brown and Travis Bell, also the bride's nephews. The photogra pher was Mr. Jim Black of Jim Black Photographers. The reception took place at Elk's Lodge on East Arrowood Road, and the catering was pro vided by Ms. Mary Elder of Ma' Danon's Catering. The newlyweds' honeymoon included a seven day cruise to Jamaica, the Grand Canyon, and Mexico. Linda graduated from Living stone College In Salisbury with a Bachelor of Science degree In business administration. She Is employed with Collins and Alk- man Corporation In Charlotte as an administrative staff ac countant. Darryl attended Ten nessee State University in Nash ville, Tennessee and received a Bachelor of Science degree In ac- rrountlng. He is employed with IBM Corporation In Charlotte as a financial analyst. Mercldene Rice and James Owens were recently united in holy matrimony. Mercldene is the daughter of the late John M. Rice and Irene Rice of Charlotte. James is the son of the late James and Marie Owens of Columbia, South Car olina. The 5 p.m. ceremony took pla- ceat the Mayfield Memorial Bap tist Church. Dr. Harold S. Diggs, Sr., who is the pastor of the church, officiated the ceremony. "Endless Love" was sung as a duet by Richard Campbell and Belinda Rice McNeil. The bride wore a fitted ivory, satin floor length gown. The gown was designed with a sweetheart neckline and long tapered sleeves. The bodice, neckline, sleeves, and skirt were trimmed with wide embroidered lace, sequins, and pearls. The back of the gown was accented with lace and satin side ruffles along with a satin bow on the lower back. TTie bride also wore a shoulder length veil with a crown of pearls and blossom flowers. 'The bouquet was a combination of royal blue car nations and white daisies. The matron of honor, Ira Ed wards, was the sister of the bride. Brendal Egleston was the bridal consultant. Both women wore a royal blue laced t-lengtli dress and carried long white rose with baby's breath and roy al blue ribbons. The bride's mother wore a mint green and white dress with a white lace collar. She also car ried a bouquet of flowers made of roses, carnations, and daises. The best man was the brother of the bridegroom, Reginald Richmond. The Hostesses were: Emma Beard, Clarissa Crowder, Lan- ette Mack, Sharon Mitchell, and Cynthia Phifer. Each wore off white dresses. Mercldene is a graduate of West Charlotte High School, Central Piedmont Community College, and Carolina School of Broadcasting. She Is employed at North Carolina National Bank. James, a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School and Allen University, Is employed at Bowan Transporta tion Company. The couple honeymooned in Detroit, Michigan and Ontario, Canada. The bride's dress for the wedding trip was a red and white knee length dress with short sleeves. Piiilbtih;' Bbaird • Eve Cornellous and Company will perform at the Afro-American Cultu ral Center's Sizzlin' Sum mer Jazz Series on Friday, July 7th at 8 p.m. Tickets are $5 for members and $7 for non-members. • Adult swim lessons will be offered at the Uptown YMCA beginning July 10th. The program will consist of two 45-mlnute lesson per week for five weeks. The cost Is $7 for non members and $14 for members. She Is enrolled in the masters program at Appalachian State University with a major In com munity education. Her duties will Include: re cruiting volunteers, increasing awareness of the program and conducting health fairs In sev eral low-income housing areas. Rev. Norman Kerry, site coor dinator said," Cheiyl will defi nitely be an asset to our pro gram, particularly with her community planning skills and the many contacts she has In the health services area."
