PagelOA - THE CHARLOTTE POST - Thursday, July 8,1993 ally and internationally. He will do that in addition to maintaining his duties as as sociate pastor at Marvin Wl- nan's Detroit-based Perfect ing Church...This week's scripture: "Love never fails. But where there are prophe cies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there Is knowledge. It will pass away," -I Corinthians 13:8. The Mississippi Mass Choir Does It Again: Malaco has another smash with the release of "It Re mains To Be Seen", the latest from the Mississippi Mass Choir. The album, which de buted at number five, is a tribute to its executive pro ducer, the late Frank Wil liams. Williams, who sang lead on several of the cuts, passed in March, after recording the album. Re sponse has been not short of phenomenal. "It's hard to keep any in stock," says Jer ry Mannery, who now heads Malaco's gospel division. "Reorders are coming in dal ly and announcers are put ting it in heavy rotation. To date, no record in the history of Malaco's gospel division had generated this kind of response In the first three weeks of release. It looks like we will more than exceed their first album." Not sur prisingly, the singles getting the most play are two of the three leads from Williams— "Grace & Mercy" and "Why We Don't Rap." Fighting The Good Fight: For the last few years. Rev. Milton Brunson and the Thompson Community Singers have been on top with hit after hit, including their current release, "My Mind Is Made Up." But for all of his successes in a long and decorated gospel career, Brunson says gospel music has taken quite a Jump. The question is can he keep up? "Sometimes I have to sit down and tell the guys, hold it, you're getting a little bit too jazzy and I don't want to lose the sight of God on my songs," Brunson says. 'That's the reason why it's a problem for us to get on R&B stations because I'm gonna say Jesus. He's the one who brought me. They'll say 'I love you' is fine as long as you don't say I love you Jesus." That very issue has become one of Brunson's biggest battles. "Because I feel as long as a man doesn't want to hear Jesus then he's tied up in an misunderstand ing. Because with the big jobs he has, it's all because the Lord permitted him there and they lose sight of that." If Brunson's mind is most made up about any one thing, it just might be to stay on top of the gospel music charts. Currently, he's prepping his latest album with the Tom mies for a mid-summer re lease. And next month, you can look for an album from his own church choir--The Praise Tabernacle Choir. The album is titled 'We've Got A Right." As to how he keeps from duplicating the sound of his famed Tommies on his own church choir, Brunson says he changes the musicians and prays. "Pray to God that He gives some good singers so that if your name comes out on an al bum, you're not down here with the church choir and up here with the Tommies. So the news I'm getting with this church choir is 'boy, the Tommies better do a thing here.' That makes it exciting because the Tommies are looking over their backs at the church choir to see how good that album is going to be." They think that quiet people. In addition to being weak, are stupid. But, while they are tr3dng to hurt you, you are thinking, 'This per son thinks I am stupid, but he (she) is really the stupid one, because I can figure out his (or her) every move." People are quiet for many different reasons. Some are shy. Some are weak. Loud people often push other peo ple around simply to cover their own weaknesses. On the other hand, quiet people can be strong, mature and in telligent. Their silence may indicate their decision to be unaffected by mundane con cerns that are not worth their time of effort. A lot abusive people have lived to regret pushing a quiet person too far. There is no fury like that of the quiet person who becomes fed up with the abu sive individual. While the bully is pushing the quiet person around, the quiet person is secretively cooking up a scheme, a plan, to get revenge against the bully. The point here is: Don't assume that quiet peo ple are weak. You just might regret it. THE PRIDE OF THE BLACK COMMUNITY Mrs. Cameron Pastor Barbara J.
