EYE ON GOSPEL
Continued from page 11A
Getting stronger: Willie Neal
Johnson & the New Keynotes
marked a creative milestone
with the July release of their
latest project, "Help Me To Be
Strong." "When 1 produced it,"
reports Johnson, "I was mak
ing a few changes that I
thought might hurt us. We
didn't change our music. But
we featured a song that was a
take-off from ‘Midnight Train
to Georgia’ and we didn't
know how our fans would
react. I was scared to death,
but they liked it and so it
worked out." But rest assured,
this doesn’t mean that
Johnson will be taking any
chances with upcoming
recordings. He says he - and
their fans - like the group's
style as it is and have no
plans to change it. Now, with
regards to what Johnson
needs help to be strong with,
he replies "fhe things you
can t change. In those
instances, you ve just got to be
strong, pray and hold on. ’
Briefly: The Christianaires
are set to go into the studio to
record album No. 8. No idea
on the title. Also in the works
is a solo album from lead
vocalist Paul Poter....Rev.
Timothy Wright, who scored a
Top 10 hit with his current
release "Live With The
London Fellowship Choir,"
just recently renewed his con
tract with Savoy and it looks
like he may be coming west to
Los Angeles to record his next
album in the first quarter of
next year...
This week's scripture; "But
avoid foolish questions and
genealogies, and contentions,
and strivings about the law;
for they are unprofitable and
vain." - Titus 3:9.
