13A RELIGION/The Charlotte Post October 10, 1996 The Prophet’s Column This is a paid advertisement by J. M. Little One day I was called to the bedside of a dying man. I walked into the room where he lay. The first person I met was Death. You may not know it but Death is a personality just as real as Satan or the Lord Jesus Christ. I stood there looking at the man, and many thoughts ran through my mind. I knew that there was no hope for him, I knew that so well. There was a wild glassy look in his eyes, his face looked as though it was wanting to burn up, his eyes were looking straight up, not a word he was uttering, just laying there quietly, not even moving. Oh, how sad my heart was for him. I knew that he was seeing the reality of his lost condition, and there was nothing I or anyone else could do about it. There he lay being awakened to his lost. ruined condition. j There was a cry coming up from his heart, you could hear it but not with the natural ear. “A Cry But No Hope.” Yes, a cry but no hope, all hope gone forever. Laying there dying. Death was taking him out into eternity, and I knew it. He knew it and he knew he could do nothing about it. Yes, he was being awakened to his lost condi tion. My friend, at death, if you are not suddenly cut off, you will know you lived in vain. He looked so helpless. God hum bles all proud men, even if it is not until death comes for you. There on his death bed he wasn’t able to go back and make up for his past rebel lious life against the gospel. My friend, neither will you. You will not be able to heed the warning when Death comes. You rebel against the Gospel now. You are having a good time, you think. You are not going to be bothered by the foolishness I am present ing to you, you say. Well, sal vation may not be for you, my trifling sinner friend, and you don’t care about you soul’s eternal welfare either. But there, my friend, there on your dying bed you will see you spent your life in vain. You refused the Gospel call. What a tragedy! There on your death bed you will see how foolish you were, you will cry. A cry but no hope. Yes, you’ll see everyday you sold your soul to the Devil, and for what! Satan will no doubt say: “now I'm going to give you your reward for all your works, here’s Hell for you! What a tragedy! Why go to Moss to extol legacy Continued from 11A necessarily housed in a church as they would have been 40 or 50 years ago,” he said. “A sig nificant body of leadership has developed. It has emerged in other areas. It is broader than what we used to see in our churches and our institutions of higher learning.” There are 40 black members of Congress, he added. “It used to be that only a black Masonic group or black church convention, could bring together a large group of peo ple,” Moss said. “Other groups are getting the attention of the black community.” African America also has other economic interests. “We have enterprises,” he said. “We have Black Elegance, Essence - black pub lications we did not see before. They have captured our atten tion, also.” “We have choices now;*** he said. “We can go to hotels, have our annual meetings in the Bahamas.” In spite of all of African America's options, he said, the African American church is still supreme. “The African American church has no peer,” he said. “No institution has presented generation after generation of leaders.” Moss is excited about his trip to Charlotte. “It is an opportunity for me to lift of the lives and works of Martin and Howard,” Moss said. “They are unique prod ucts of the black church and leaders of the black communi ty.” He admits to be a little hum bled by the attention he has received throughout his career. “You know that it is a little difficult,” he said. “I am hum bled by all of these awards.” ^ He is most proud of his hon ors from his alma mater Morehouse College. Woman saves church and home Continued from 11A some holiday cheer. If the center does have to close down from November to March, Mary isn't sure what will happen. “We have people come in regularly to get warm cloth ing, blankets and something hot to drink. Lots of people hang out here just to be warm ... we also have people come to us for help who don’t want food stamps or welfare ... and a lot of people who are men tally ill tend to be afraid of government agencies, and they come to us, too,” she said. The Devil does not love you, and your worldly friends don’t love you. They couldn’t care less whether you died and went to Hell or not, but I care.
