Wi)t Cliarlotte ^osit THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 6, 1996 ii II4A KIDS PAGE Tryon Hills Carolina bound By John Minter THE CHARLOTTE POST Talk about a great weekend. Just ask about 30 Tryon Hills Elementary sixth graders. They got a personal tour of the UNC Chapel Hill campus from Chancellor Michael Hooker, including a look at his own office and the famous Old Well. Then they watched as the Tar Heels basketball team handed Middle Tennessee State University a drubbing. But, then Hooker made the students a promise: Keep your grades up and I will guaran tee you a scholarship to Carolina. Wow! That’s tough to beat. Tryon Hills principal Patricia Holleman could hard ly contain her excitement and joy for her students. The trip was orgemized after Supt. Eric Smith bragged to the students about knowing Hooker and promised to hand deliver any letters they wrote to him. Hooker answered the letters and invited the students and their chaperones to the cam pus Saturday. Who knows what Tryon Hills folks plan for this weekend?
