14A LIFESTYLES/ The Charlotte Post Thursday, May 22, 1997 The Prophet’s Column The Prophet’s Column, Inc. 9626 Feldbank Drive Charlotte, NC 28216 Repeat of Newsletter - 1995 Part 1 This Is a paid advertisement by J. M. Little the kingdom of the Lord Jesus Christ and having been forgiven of all my sins. If I did not know Christ this morning, I’d go under. How is it between you and the Lord? Can you say you have been translated from the power of darkness into the kingdom of the Lord Jesus Christ, and that you have been forgiven of all you sins? If not, don’t rest until you can say that will all assurance. Very few souls on this earth who know what it means to be in darkness, and then know what it means to walk with Christ as He leads you day by day, moment by moment. Few can say they truly “WHO HATH DELIVERED US FROM THE POWER OF DARKNESS, AND HATH TRANSLATED US INTO THE KINGDOM OF HIS DEAR SON: IN WHOM WE HAVE REDEMPTION THROUGH HIS BLOOD, EVEN THE FOR GIVENESS OF SINS:” This is my standing before God in Christ, having been translated from the power of darkness into know Christ. Many have a “head” knowledge of Christ, and it ends there because there has never come the brooding and awakening work of the Holy Spirit in that soul, according to John 16:7-11. Apart from Holy Spirit conviction, you don’t even know yourself and that you need Christ. Most of our Bible teach ers, deacons, preachers and evangelist, etc., etc., have gone through the Bible schools and have never been awakened to their lost condition, according to Ephesians 2:1, therefore, these unawakened leaders do not know, have never dreamed of, and cannot warn a sinner of the judgment of a sin-avenging God. They cannot warn you of the wrath of God and that a death sentence is hanging over you at this very moment. They cannot warn you because they have never seen, experimentally, these truths. One of the first things an awakened sinner sees when he is awakened is the judgment and anger of God. If you have never seen the judgment you are under, you are not saved. I don’t care how much you profess to be saved, your denial of the wrath and judgment of God is evidence that you are lost. Parker honored by Promise Keepers Continued from 11A Keepers ministries was to honor local ministers who have made a difference. Parker has ordained 15 minis ters during his almost 50 year ministry. White, whose off-field interests include Christian recordings and film companies, is an associate minister at Knoxville, Tenn.’s Inner City Church, which was destroyed by fire last January. He also plugged Urban Hope, an ecumenical ministry founded by Wliite and his wife, Sara. Urban Hope develops irmer city ministries and provides leader ship development training. \^te has worked with at-risk youth in inner cities for the last 11 years. “Our goal is to invest money into business, into creating edu cational components to give peo ple a chance to create economic opportunity for themselves,” l^ite said. “Our focus is the inner city and rural areas.” White hopes to expand the pro gram to Charlotte in the near future. Thursday’s program was just the beginning. “You have to build a trust fac tor,” White said in an interview after his speech. ‘Tve found the way you build a trust factor is you have to be real with people. They have to see that you’re real. They can’t just hear you talking and preaching that you need Jesus. You also have to go in and spend money in their conununity. And you have to find a way for the money to recycle in their commu nities.” White has developed an inner city loan program that works with people and businesses who are traditionally unable to get bank loans. The inner city ministry has given White and his wife a new perspective. Both were surprised hy what they found. “They are a lot of people hurting that need help,” ’White said. “It wasn’t a bunch of gang bangers. Even the gang bangers wanted help...I had been out of that loop for a time. I went to college, I lived on campus for a while and then I played football. We didn’t have a lot of shootings and things Parker when I was growing up. But that’s all that I saw on TV - that boys in the hood mentality. That’s what I thought was going on. But there are more people looking for a helping hand than are not. “These gang members and drug dealers are very intelligent. They stay up all night to run a business. If you put them in a situation to run a real business, they could probably make that corporation a great corporation.” Sara White said more surpris ing than the mentality of inner city inhabitants was the reaction of the people who once supported them after they began the pro gram. “What surprised me is that peo ple didn’t want to partner with us anymore when we went to the communities that weren’t bring ing in money,” Sara White said. “V^ereas people want to partner with us in the suburbs. When you want to go to the inner city and give them a chance they didn’t want to support us. We ended up going in on our own.” Reggie White said he has had difficulty finding banks to back his inner city loan program, despite the fact the default rate on the loans is far below that of standard programs.
