Cemetery St, Salisbury. 5 remain for top Durham police job THE ASSOCIATED PRESS DURHAM — Five finalists have been named for the job of Durham police chief, including Tbcson, Ariz.’s highest-ranking black police commander and a woman police commander from Maryland. The other finalists are from Virginia, Miami and Washington, D.C. The Durham department has about 400 employees. Tbcson Assistant Chief Collier Hill, 48, who heads the Tucson department's Investigative Services Bureau, oversees 250 people. He has been with the Tbcson police since 1973. Teresa C. Chambers, 40, com mands about 200 employees as district commander at the Prince Georges County, Md., police department near Washington, D.C. The other finalists are Atlas L. Gaskins of Newport News, Va.; Larry Mathieson of Miami; and Robert Crump White of Fort Washington, Md. Gaskins, 49, has been assis tant police chief of Newport News since 1991. Mathieson, 48, is a major in the Metro- Dade (Fla.) Police Department. White, 45, has been director of public safety for the District of Columbia Housing Authority since 1995. He previously was a commander in the Washington, D.C., police department. Out of town?
