now must decide whether
the younger man also should
be sentenced to death or life
in prison without chance of

expected more defense wit
nesses to testify for up to 3
1/2 hours Monday before
closing arguments can begin.
Cooley said those witness
es would include Malvo’s
father, Leslie, who lived with
his son and the young man’s
mother in Jamaica until lee
Malvo was about 5.

of Neal’s Barber Shop on
Oaklawn Road is calling it
quits after seven decades of
close shaves and shampoos.
Neal, whose shop has been a
gathering spot around these
parts for years, has deep
roots in Charlotte. He’s a
graduate of West Charlotte
High School and also played
a pivotal role in the 1960s
sit-in movement. He helped
organize transportation to
and from downtown depart
ment stores for students who
sat down in order to stand
up to The Man.
