7A NEWS/tmge Cliarlotte ^oat Thursday, March 11, 2004 AARP is continuing the fight for affordable prescription drugs. The pharmaceutical companies have to do their part. High prescription drug prices are a major concern in the African-American community. That’s why we want America’s pharmaceutical companies to do the right thing: Limit price increases to no greater than the level of inflation and use their influence to limit greater markups at the retail level. ^ Cooperate with safe, reasonable drug importation from Canada. ^ Support research that evaluates the effectiveness of comparable drugs, so that people and doctors know which drugs work best. Give the government the authority to negotiate lower drug prices if promised discounts aren’t achieved. Until every American can afford the medications they need, AARP will continue the fight for affordable prescription drugs. That’s why we’ve written a letter to the pharmaceutical industry asking them to take action.
