wm 8A NEWSASie CJariottt #o«t Thursday, March 18, 2004 Activist defends noctunial foray - Mien, sort Of For the uninitiated, Fly on the Wall is a column chock full of rumor and innuendo with a smat tering of truth. We know Fly’s fans are reading that, but the legal eagles at Dewey Cheatham and 'Howe insist in order to keep the bosses out of (really) hot water. The whole town’s talking about Rev. James Barnett’s arrest last week on solicita tion of prostitution last week. But Fly’s trying to keep all the with Raleigh City Council, which is encouraging St. Aug’s to scale back plans for a 5,000-seat stadium. Suber said last week she’s not interested in cutting capaci ty of the proposed facility in half and intimated she’ll vote not to locate the tourna ment in the capital city if council doesn’t play ball. Three years ago, Suber said she convinced another CIAA president to vote for Raleigh over Charlotte and the final tally was 7-5. Having Bob (Bobcats) James Johnson on Charlotte’s side may be slam dunk enough if he gets involved, but it doesn’t hurt to have Suber’s sup port up for grabs. Remember that drama between the Black Political Caucus and never-to-be hon- Barnett banter straight, especially from the Rev, who has been out front for years with anti-violence activism in the black community. First he says he was merely testing police presence when he was picked up on Wilkinson Boulevard (wink, wink). And then as a single man, well, you know, the urge can hit at some strange times. Fly will allow the Rev that one. After all, before he was a man of God, he was a man — feet of clay and all. • Charlotte’s hopes of gain ing the CIAA basketball tournament may pick up an important ally in St. Augustine’s . College President Diane Suber. James, a Mecklenburg County commissioner, for warded information sent by a contact he says shows the BPC used funds eaimarked for non-political use to the political side. James took that info to the Man, and word is supposed to come down soon as to what, if any penalty the caucus will incur. While the give and take is amusing, Fly’s intrigued most by one burn ing question: Who in heck is the mole?
