5B RELIGION/r^e CMRe $o«t Thursday, July 27, 2006 Minister authors book on church and ‘down low’ Continued from page 4B stru^le of African Americans for civil rights is appalling.” King writes that attitudes such as McCall’s are why black men live on the down low. Stevens doesn’t buy that. “This book is a healing doc ument for men who are on the dovm low and for family membere who know men who are on the down low. I give a four-step process for men to be delivered from a hfe of compromise,” he said, adding that when God created man and women he didn’t make a mistake by putting a woman in a man’s body or vice versa. “When God created man he put a spirit of a man in him,” he said. While his book does call for pastors living on the down low to step down, Stevens offers kind words to men who want to change. “Jesus loves the sinner but hates the sin,” he said. “Straight Up” goes on sale ■ August 1 and can be piu*- chased online at www.midiaelastevens.com or by calling (877) 563-5683. Gifts of the Holy Spirit ADVERTISEMENT Continued from page 4B pie “brought the sick out into the streets and laid them on beds and couches, that at least the shadow of Peter passing by might fall on some of them;” Acts 14:8-10 tells about the lame man in Lystra whose feet were without strength, and who “Paul observing him... said with a loud voice, ‘Stand up straight on your feet!’ And (the man) leaped and walked;” andActs 28:8-9 tells were “the father of Pubhus lay sick of a fever and dysentery” and how Paul “went in to him and prayed” ... and “laid hands on bim and healed him;” and not only this man, but “the rest of those on the island who had diseases came and were healed.” 5. How would the gift of . miracle differ from the other gifts? Since another spiritual gift was “the working of mirades” in 1 Cor. 12:10, we can assume that this included miracles other than healings. This mi^t indude such mir ades as raising the dead (see Acts 9:36-41), inflicting chas tisement on those attempting to thwart the gospel (see Acts 13:9-11), casting out demons (see Acts 19:12), and deliver ance from deadly serpents (see Acts 28:1-6; and Mark 16:17-20). 6. What was the gift, of prophecy? How was this gift exerdsed? Walvoord and Zuck say that “Prophecy.is the ability-like that of the Old Tfestament prophets-to dedare a mes sage of God for His people.” Morning Star Trinity Park Baptist Church ‘The Church where Praver is Essentia! and Application is the Ke\-'' We are doers of the Word and not hearers only, Revelation based on James 1:22 9115 Trinity Rd., Charlotte, NC 28216 704.393.0130 Sunday School Sunday Worship.... Clarence G. Page Senior Pastor The Prophet’s Column, Inc. 6183 NCI 09 South Wadesboro, NC 28170-9533 “THE TEACHER’S CLINIC” (Part III) J.M. Little, Teacher Q: Do you believe there is some goodness in the worst of men? A: No, there is no goodness in any man. Man is TOTALLY DEPRAVED. (Isa. 64:6, Rom. 3:10) Q: You teach that a sinner can have nothing to do in his salvation. Why? A: Tor by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.’ (Eph. 2:8-9) Q: 1 am a Bible teacher just like you. But I don’t have the assurance of salvation that you have. Why? A: It is because you have missed Holy Spirit Conviction (Jn. 16:7-11) and Christ has never been REVEALED to your heart. (Gal. 1:15-16) Q: I accepted Jesus as my Saviour back when I was a young child. And I have been religious ever since. But 1 never can get up to that high state of joy I feel I should. A: My friend, I lived there for years. You are in the condition you are in because you have missed Christ. You are hying to live the Christian life apart from Christ. Pray for the discovery of your soul. Q; You have taught that physical healing is not part of the Gospel of Grace. How can you reconcile your teaching with Isaiah 53:5? A: Isaiah 53:5 reads thus; ‘But he (Christ) was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and vwth his stripes we are healed.” The prophet here is addressing the truth that Christ paid the ultimate price on the Cross for all the sins of the elec!. Christ endured an eternity of punishment in Hell on the Cross for His people. This has nothing to do with physical healing. This is Christ dying for our sins. Those who teach that Christ died that we might not be sick physically are slandering the jostle Paul, Timothy and even the saints today. Paul carried the physician Luke with him many places. Paul had physical sidtness. You are saying Paul was not a man of faith when you teach as you do. I have physical sickness. You are also slandering me. ^ Q: What about the “tongue” movement today? You have said many times that the present-day tongues movement is of the Devil. A; The present-day tongue movement is of the Devil. Those who emphasize ‘speaking in tongues” minimize Blood redemption in Christ and never tell how they were brought down under Holy Spirit Conviction. (Jn, 16:7-11) Those Apostles who spoke in tongues on the Day of Pentecost were enabled to do so in order that all those who spoke other languages could hear the wonderful works of God in their own languages. Tongues did not die for sinners. Christ died for sinners. ilASTERPEACE .
