Ai teachers, if we show we love them, they can do just about anything. ” - Fionne Stout Five years ago, no one could have told our “Teacher of the Month” Fionne Austin Stout, that she would end up being a teacher. After two years of working as an engi neer in corporate America, she could not see how what she was doing was making a difference. That bothered her. Her fiancee’ finally said, “you love kids, you like helping people, you’d make an excellent teacher.” With little coax ing, she put her feelers and applications out, and Charlotte Mecklenburg School said, we need you. Stout joined the staff at Spaugh Middle School 3 years ago and hasn’t looked back. Admired by her peers and loved by her students, Stout is finally mak ing a difference in the lives of children. A native of Atlanta, Stout is the fourth child and only daughter bom to Annie Pearl and Joe Louis Austin Sr. Even today, Stout feels her big brothers could have done a better job of spoiling her. Stout attended Fulton County public schools, earned her computer engineering degree in ’97 from Georgia Tech, her BS in math in ’98 from Spelman College, and her masters in electrical engineering from NC A&T State University in 2001. For dedication in her chosen fields of study. Stout has been recognized with many awards in math and engineering. However, she’s particularly fond of her Dual Degree in Engineering award, and proud to have received a fellowship in engineering to attend NC A& T. In her spare time Stout enjoys movies, dancing, reading, roller skating, and is big on arts and crafts. She particularly likes making jewelry and fountains. A newlywed of only two months, Fionne is happily married to Joe Stout, and says “I think I just like having Joes in my life.” Best Wishes “Fionne” from Coca Cola Bottling Company Consolidated of Charlotte Coca Co (a TReaC ) Debra Luster is the third photographer from New Orleans.
