S., Calypso Alathenian Censor of society (2, 3, 4) president of Athletic Association (4): treasurer of class (4). “She’s a girl that cooks, She’s a girl that sews, She’ll make her way wher ever iShe goes.” Rachel is very domestic, neat, and accurate, so she always “stars” when there is anything like a home economics exhibit on hand. It has been rumored that it will not !be long before she will begin to apply her arts in earnest. We are sure she will be a splen did home-maker. U. And her modest answer and gracrful air Show , her wise and good as she is fair.” Lyda Jane is a jolly, good com panion. She is ever happy and meets everyone with a smile. She is very industrious, and we wish her much success as a teacher, not! She has an abundance of humor and wit, which make her presence enjoyable. She’s “true- blue” through and through, and is the kind that makes you see the sunny side of life. We know not half the work she’s done.” Callie is a steady and earnest worker in whatever she under takes—owner of her own heart, we think, and master of her own mind. What she says, she means —whether it is seriousness, sar casm, or jest. We knoiw that she will meet success wherever she goes. Mary Stanley, B. Whatever she undertakes she ac complishes, and we see in her fu ture a great success. With sue cess we wish her happiness. Her personality and kindness will have a lasting impression upon her friends. Theresa Davis, B. A., Pendleton. She’s always sure to win.” With her loveable, jolly way, she wins a place in the hearts of everyone. She is ever a good sport and a true friend, and she is alw'ays there to do a service for you. She’s fond of mischief and plays many pranks on unsuspect ing classmates. Thelma Perry, B. A., Cofie]d. Lucalian 'Censor of society (3); secretary of class (4). “'Sometimes we find hearts that are big. Always willing to give their all. In the heart of this girl, we find ideals that will never fall.” Thelma is kind to everyibody with whom she comes in contact. Even though a task is difficult she finds a way to perform it. Deter mination is her master key to suc cess, and she will surely win in the game of life. Her sweet dis position and kindness have made for her many affectionate friends. Virginia Stanley, B. A., Lawrence ville, Va. Alathenian Reporter of class (1) ; reporter of society (2) ; secretary of class (3); society marshal (2, 3); so ciety critic (3). “She’s kind; she’s modest, sincere, and just. More studious, more deter mined than the most of us.” Virginia has shown her worth during the past four years. She has been ever willing and ready to shoulder responsibilities. She is a faithful worker and true friend. Her past work predicts for her a successful future. Here is the jolliest girl of our class—fun-loving, good-natured, and happy-go-lucky. Marion nev er worries about what the future may hold. When other brows are dark and perplexed over problems, we find her laughing and saying she’s happy because things are no worse. She is a studious and de pendable girl. Marion Woodard, B. A., Severn. Alathenian Treasurer of class (3) ; chap lain of society (2). “Let the world slide, let the world go, A fig for a care, a fig for a woe.” ALATHENIAN NOTES The Alathenian Literary Socie ty has had three regular meetings during the last few weeks. Very interesting programs have been given through the efforts of the new president, Retbecca Peeibles, and the program committee. The program for April 14 consisted of discussions of current topics. Another meeting of the society on April 29, had a program con sisting of humorous and inspiring original numlbers. The program was as follows: An original poem, Theresa Davis; “A Freshman Writes Homes”, Jemmie Benton; an essay, “How I Became the Out standing 'Memlber of My Class”, Rachel Albritton; “A Senior Writes Home”, Gertrude Spencer; “Pen-Pictures of the Seniors”, Callie Patrick; “What Chowan Has Meant to 'Me”, Virginia Stan ley; “What the Alathenian So ciety Has Meant to Me”, Edna Earle Harrell. The society held its last meet ing on May 12. At this time the members were entertained by a radio program, which consisted of speeches, stories, news flashes, and music of every description. Even Amos ’n’ Andy were on the air.' Everyone present was kept laughing continuously. On May 6, the Alathenians went on a pi^ic supper. They met on the front steps of the main build ing at 5:30 in the afternoon and hiked to Hill Crest Park. After walking around and talking while, the co-eds built a bonfire. This meant a weiner roast. Soon everyone was comfortaibly seated around the fire, eating weiners and drinking cold drinks. The feast came to an end and its par ticipants then turned homeward. You find in her a rare combination of -work and play. Although she finds time to engage in all kinds of sports, her lessons are never neglected.
