She was elected by members of the Braves basketball team and crowned during a recent chapel meeting. Miss Congleton was Queen of Hearts last year and a member of the Homecoming Court this year. Houseparty is Held By YWA^s At Buies Creek By SUSAN HARRIS Five girls from Chowan Col lege attended the State Y. W. A. Houseparty the week-end of January 29-31 at Campbell Col lege, Buies Creek. They were Beronica Ray, Elaine Earley, Jeanette Dowdy, Catherine Lei cester, and Susan Harris. Mrs. J. A. Smith, associational Y. W. A. director, and Mrs. Sybil Grimes, dean of women of Cho wan College, accompanied the girls on the trip. The theme for the week-end was “God So Loved The World”. Speakers were Mrs. Allegra La- Prairie, New Orleans; Dean A. R. Burkot, Campbell CoUege; Mrs. W. K. McGee, Winston- Salem; Edna Frances Dawkins; Mrs. Harry Wood, Leaksville; Mrs. Bryant Hicks, Missionary to Philippines, and BiUie Pate, Birmingham, Alabama. From the missionary reports, the members seemed very con scious of the work that has been done in the missionary fields. Miss Sara Ann Hobbs, State Y. W. A. Director, was in charge of making the preparations for the houseparty. On Friday evening, January 29, Mrs. LaPrairie delivered the message “What I Present To My World.” Fellowship follow ed in the college gym. Saturday morning, January 30, Miss Dawkins spoke on “What My World Presents To Me”. After the message the girls were assigned to attend various conferences. A business session was held for the election of of ficers. Following the business session Y. W. A. members pre sented programs on “Program Pointers”, “White Bible Cere mony”, and “Citation”. Saturday night, January 30, a banquet was held in the Camp bell College cafeteria for the visiting Y. W. A. members. The theme for the banquet was “All Around the U. S. A.”. In the evening session Mr. Harry Wood and Mrs. Bryant Hicks delivered the message “God’s Work With in His World”. On Sunday morning, January 31, Sunday School classes were held. The concluding message of the houseparty was delivered by Rev. Harold Cole on “Motionva- tion For Missions”. After a delicious lunch, served in the college cafeteria, every one started on the way home and back to their respective colleges. Convocation Service Held The second semester opening Convocation was held during chapel Wednesday, January 27. The speaker for the event was The Reverend B. M. White- Hurst of Roanoke Rapids. Mr. John C. Gill, Jr. expressed greetings to the new students of Chowan College. The invocation was by James Henry of Laurin- burg, Chowan student. Mr. F. Milam Johnson, professor and chairman of the Science depart ment read the scripture and fol lowed with a prayer. Musical selections were pre sented by the Chowan College choir with professor James Chamblee directing. The Reverend White-Hurst is currently serving on the Chowan I College Board of Trustees, also I as a National Guard Chaplain, and is pastor of the Rosemary I Baptist Church in Roanoke I Rapids.
