The entire building is to be set on a raised base. Handsome marble-faced columns will grace
a wide veranda encircling the entire building. This veranda will be landscaped and will provide
attractive outdoor reading-study space. Adjacent to the lobby just inside the main entrance will
be an "Antiquities Room" for the preservation of rare books and items connected with the his
tory of Chowan College. The main reading room on the first floor level will also have a mez
zanine and will seat about 300 students. At the rear of the building there will be a daylight
basement which will provide stack space for about 75,000 volumes.

DESCRIPTION OF CLASSROOM-ADMINISTRATION BUILDING
This building will be a three story structure. It will have two wings projecting forward from
the main body of the building on the ground level. The wing on the left will contain adminis
trative offices and conference areas, as well as a faculty lounge-meeting room. In the wing on
the right will be the larger lecture halls. The second and third floors of the building will con
tain lecture halls of various sizes and a number of faculty offices. Entrances to the building will
face onto a large open air concourse. In the center of this concourse there will be a beautiful
memorial fountain which will be lighted at night.
