Chowan Braves Represented on '64 All-Region Ten Team * ^ f' - i ■' •.V' V RICKY DUDLEY ■ W-.C * iV ;>v. V* te Three members of the Chowan College grid pack have been sel- lected on the District Ten All Region Team. Head Coach James Garrison has announced that Ricky Dudley of Mebane, 6’3”, 215-pounder, tackle; John Arendts of Virginia Beach, Va., 185-pound guard; and Tommy Grayson of Lexington, 175-pound halfback. David Whitten of Durham, 185-pound center was given honorable mention. Dudley, a sophomore, was a standout on both offense and def ensive play. He was one of only a few who ran both ways on the Braves team. Reliable sources in dicate that Dudley will probably pick one of four senior colleges for his last two years, the Univer sity of Richmond, Guilford, Elon College, or Appalachian State. Dudley is a graduate of Southern Alamance High School and play ed football there and at Mebane High School prior to consolida tion. Arendts, an All-State high school football player graduat ed from Virginia Beach High School. He was another two-way man for Garrision. Also a soph omore, he plans to attend the University of Richmond. Garri son pointed out that Arendts was one of the fastest men on the Braves Club, thus enabling him to lead the entire team in the total number of individual tack les. Grayson captured honors as the leading scorer in the District Ten. He graduated from Lexington High School where he played foot ball and plans to complete his last two years of college work in possibly one of the Carolina Conference schools or the Univer sity of Connecticut. Dave Whitten is a graduate of Durham High School and had the reputation of being the "spark plug” of the team. He served with Tom Grayson as co-captain for the Braves. Whitten has indi cated that he has no definite plans for his last two years of college although he intends to pursue the bachelor’s degree. The Chowan Braves finished the season with 6-3 record after dropping their first two contests of the season. The choice of the four men on the All-Conference team is indicative of the hard work done by the Braves as the season progressed. Dudley, ac cording to knowledgeable sour ces, is leading contender for na tional honors as a member of the team. The Chowan Braves, although having the best record of any team in the District Ten Reg ion, finished second in confer ence ratings with the title going to the Ferrum College Panthers. 4^ “ '£ i- JOHN ARENDTS % TOMMY GRAYSON DAVE WITTEN PAGE FOURTEEN THE CHOWANIAN
