Hello There, Alumni!
Like all college and university graduates,
you are fair game for requests for financial
aid to your Alma Mater.
And rightly so!
You should participate in the growth of
not only the college or colleges you attend
ed, but even in the promotion of the high
school from which you graduated.
This does not necessarily mean financial
support. There are other ways you can show
interest and appreciation for the education
and guidance you have received. We are
anxious to have you keep up with the con
tinuing expansion of Chowan College, both
in its physical plant and its educational ser
vices. You can do this by visiting the col
lege as frequently as possible and learning,
first hand, what is really happening.
If you have not visited the campus in the
last few years you will be absolutely amaz
ed. It is completely impossible, through
words or pictures, to carry the complete
story of the Chowan College of today.
There is still much about the campus that
would recall your days here, and even
though your classmates have gone on to
other things, you will find a visit to your
Alma Mater most interesting. How about it?
A Job Well Done
The 1964-65 basketball season is over. The
jerseys, warm-up jackets, and the like, have
been stored until next year. Trophies have
been placed proudly in their place. Statis
tics have been written in record books that
will close another chapter in the sports his
tory of Chowan College.
The Braves have made a great showing
in regular season play and listed probably
more entries in the “win” column as any
team in recent years. And, they fared well
in tournament competition, too. These re
cords are impressive to be sure . . . but
there is more to sports than the results of
contests.
The entire team has displayed excellent
sportsmanship since their very first prac
tice session, and have proved that they
can be good losers as well as proud win
ners. Coach William McCraw has guided
his team members well and has given them
determination to win, courage to lose, but
always with instructions of play that are
founded on the Golden Rule.
All these things have brought honor and
glory to Chowan College—and we’re proud
of it! We’re proud of each team member
and the records they have set . . . we’re
proud of their coach for the valuable guid
ance he has given them . . . but most of all,
we're proud of the way they have played
the game.

In the top picture Roby (Pat) Shuffler,
Raleigh, Charles Phillips Stevens, Asheville,
and James Edward Boughan of Richmond,
Virginia, are busy on pages for the college
annual, THE CHOWANOKA.
In the second picture are Kenneth Myrick,
Amelia, Ohio and Allen Glenn (Spot) Seag-
er, Portsmouth, Virginia, who are shown at
a Linotype machine setting type for the col
lege annual.
All five of these students have worked
many hours between classes, at night, and
on many week-ends to take pictures, pre
pare copy, make layouts, and set type for
college publications.
“Pat” Shuffler has done outstanding work
as Chief Phptographer for student publica
tions; Charles Stevens, Editor-In-Chief of
THE CHOWANOKA, has been responsible
for much of the copy preparation, the layout
and design, and offest processes for the an
nual; James Boughan has put in many
hours preparing printing plates and actually
printing many sections for THE CHOWAN
OKA.
Of course before the boys in the offset
department can proceed, copy must be set
on Linotypes, corrected, and proofed for
reproduction. Ken Myrick and “Spot” Sea-
ger have used most of their spare time do
ing this work.
So it is only proper that THE CHOWAN
IAN salutes the five Chowan College School
of Graphic Arts students who are showing
sincere interest and taking active parts in
promoting their class annual and THE
CHOWANIAN as well. The five are also to
be commended because each one plans to
attend a four-year college and study for a
BS degree in graphic arts.
