Xhowanian' Wins Award “Wow” and “Bravo” were among remarks written by some of the world’s outstanding newspaper and magazine critics in evaluating Cho wan College’s news-magazine when it received for the third time, and the second successive time, an award for having attained the highest rating any newspaper can receive. Almost Perfect Scores In gaining this achievement, it was given almost perfect scores on rat ings in all areas, including photogra phy, design, lay-out, make-up and news content. Earlier, “The Chowan- ian” received an honor award from the Baptist Public Relations Associ ation and was the only collegiate newspaper in North Carolina so hon ored. Bucking- Brooks, Chowan Student Has Promising Future Wayne Lewis, Chowan College sophomore from Roanoke Rapids who helps support his mother, has a pro mising career in broadcasting. Among 40 people from the South chosen to attend the summer Radio and Television Institute at Chapel Hill, he was promoted to director of broadcasting for WUNC-TV. Wayne, who enjoys interviewing show per sonalities, athletes and politicians has broadcast on-the-spot interviews with Andy Griffith and Strom Thurmond, Ross Cadle Retires to Florida Ross A. Cadle, former Director of Admissions at Chowan College, has retired and is now residing in Melbourne, Florida. The amiable administrator seived this institution for twelve years. Cadle 280 Isla Street Liala Park West Melbourne, Florida 32901 WAYNE LEWIS when the South Carolina senator was campaigning for presidential aspirant Barr>' Goldwater. He also interviewed rock and roll singers, discovering a- mong them a professional opera singer and a licensed mortician. Employed by a chain of radio stations gathering news and features, he is active in campus life, works with the college dramatists, and is an outstanding student. When Wayne was young, his he roes were broadcasters. “Other boys wanted to be policemen, fire men, pilots, . football . players,. cowixyys and all of the other things little fellows talk about but, as long as I can remember,” says Wayne, "I’ve wanted to broadcast.” He wants to suceed because of his mother. His father died when he was very young and Wayne explains, “My mother and I are only family each of us has and, for her, I want to be the finest Christian young man and broadcaster possible.” At Campbell Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Hamilton, former professor in the English De partment at Chowan College, is now Assistant Professor of English at Campbell College.
