Dormitory Named in Honor
Of Mrs. Carol Grotnes Belk
A resident hall for women students
on Chowan College’s campus is being
nained for Mrs. Carol Grotnes Belk,
wife of Senator Irwin Belk of Char
lotte, chairman of Chowan’s recently-
organized Board of Advisors, and who
lecently presented a significant per
sonal contribution to the college’s
development campaign.
The structure to be named for Mrs.
Belk is a three-story brick building
which houses 200 women students
and is fully air-conditioned. It is
completely modem in design and
provides lounges on each floor as
well as convenient built-in furniture.
Recognized as an outstanding lead
er in North Carolina’s educational,
political and religious life. Sen. Belk
currently serves in leadership posi
tions with eight church and religious
organizations, and is known as one
of the most distinguished champions
of the cause of church-related college
education.
Office Holder
He has represented Mecklenburg
County as state representative and
senator for 18 years, serves state
government as a member of nine leg
islative committees and his many
chairmanship positions include lead
ership of the Highway Safety Commit
tee and the Appropriations Commit
tee. He is an outstanding business
man, serving as president of Belk
Enterprises, Inc., and chairman of
the Board of the Belk Foundation.
Nine Chowanians Installed
Into National Honorary Fraternity
Nine new members have been in
stalled into the Delta Psi Omega fra
ternity, a national honorary organiza
tion for student dramatists, at Cho
wan College.
Installed during an impressive
ceremony, supervised by Mrs. Edith
Larson, professor of Drama and Eng
lish who directs the Chowan Players,

Mrs. Larson explained that Delta
Psi Omega stimulates interest in
dramatic activities at Chowan, en
abling its members to transfer their
interest and dramatic ability to senior
colleges after graduation. Monthly
meetings are held, resolving problems
in drama production. Future meet
ings will have well-known drama
critics as guest speakers.
Twin Daughters
Born to Graduate
Mrs. Emmanual Pegram of Wood
land, N. C., the former Peggy Nor
wood of Chowan’s class of 1963, never
does things half way, recent events
indicate. She recently became the
proud mother of twin daughters, Ter
ri Lynn and Sherri Lane.
Her husband, the pastor of Wood
land Baptist Church, is reported re
ceiving a double dose of all tasks
and experiences unique to a new
father.
