Phase II Development Campaign Initiated by Community Service fhu,. of iL BSU Inauguration of Chowan College’s Phase II Development Campaign is being initiated by Community Service panels acting on behalf of the college, with Ahoskie’s panel members open ing the campaign. These community service panels are aiding the second phase of the college’s campaign to raise $2,250,000. from private gifts for necessary ex pansion of facilities by 1973, the year Chowan observes its 125th anniver sary. A dozen men, who will be making calls on behalf of Chowan College in the Ahoskie area through February 10, are William R. Raynor, Ollie M. Brown, Roberts H. Jernigan, Hugh B. Copeland, Joseph R. Bryant, Harold McCoy, William Green, W. Sid Tayloe, Jr., Shirley S. Pierce, Dr. J. L. Dar den, Jr., L. M. Brinkley and Ernie G. Johnson. Mr. Raynor is panel chairman and Mr. Brown is serving as co-chair- man. Work by this community service panel is inaugurating the college’s Phase II Development Campaign. The Phase I Development Cam paign ended in December, surpassing its goal of $500,000. with a total of $583,387.00 pledged to the Development Program to be used toward con struction costs for a new library-fine arts facility and concentrated pri marily on the College Family Division and the Community division. The Col lege Family Division includes Cho wan’s Board of Trustees, Board of Advisors, administration, professors and other college personnel. The community division consists primarily of the town of Murfreesboro. Campaign cabinet members are Braxton Bragg Dawson of Washing ton, N. C., Archer LeRoy Jameson of Williamston, A. Woodrow Tayloe of Aulander, Bob Hill of Murfreesboro and William R. Raynor of Ahoskie. By BKCKY O’NEAL / Well, second semester is well on its way, and soon sophomores (and oth ers) will be leaving Chowan to con tinue their education or work. How ever, there is a lot of activity plan ned before then, concerts, socials, and plays. Keep your eyes and ears open! ! ! As for BSU, our next event is the Missions Conference at Wake Forest Seminary, Feb. 17-19. Registration will be $1.00 and your spending mo ney. Missionaries on furlough, a film, a drama presentoin and workers in such fields as the Peace Corps will be available to talk to. Anyone interest ed see me or Dr. Taylor. Some of us remember from last year the writing on the shade in one of the homes we stayed! ! You’ll enjoy going and meeting interesting people. We’re sorry about the film “The Parable” not being shown on cam pus due to technical difficulties. It was shown Jan. 15 at Murfreesboro Baptist Church. We watched it, then had some discussion and watched it again, to try and see the things each missed the first time. It’s interesting and will make you think through each one’s interpretation is different. You missed a good film and discussion if you wern’t there. March will be busy for BSU’ers as Religious Emphasis Week will be held on March 13-17. Our main speak er, who is from Texas, now resides as Chairman of Discussion of Lan guage and Literature at St. Andrews College, He is Dr. W. D. White, who has a Ph-D in English and Religion and has studied at Baylor and Princton. Another guest will be Char les “Charlie Weaver” Webster Direc tor of College Relation at N. C. State. He’s been very active in many things and one can really get a good con versation going with him, I know this as fact as he’s lead many con ferences I’ve attended. You’ll all like him. I’m sure. Students will head each committee with one or two mem bers on each. We hope all will co- opeate and try their best to make our guest feel welcome and at home. Study hard as another vacation, Easter, will be soon. Dr. Whitaker, Virgil McBride On Conference Dr. Bruce E. Whitaker, president, and Virgil L. McBride, assistant to the president and director of develop ment, represented Chowan College this week at a conference on gift sup port for North Carolina educational institutions. The conference, sponsored by R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company with the cooperation of Duke University, open ed Sunday and concluded Wednesday. Conference sessions were held at Winston- Salem. Dr. Whitaker and Mr. McBride were among representatives of 47 participating colleges and universi ties. QUOTES “A success is one who decided to succeed—and worked.
