Miss Frances White Becomes
Bride of H. G. Coleman
The wedding of Miss Frances E.
White and H. Gordon Coleman took
place Thursday, October 19, at 10; 30
a.m. at the home of the bride’s cousin,
the Rev. Dr, R. Kelly White, “White
Wings,” Conway.
Dr. White officiated at the ceremony
and was assisted by the Rev. Rowland
Pruette, minister of the Murfreesboro
Baptist Church.
The attendants were Mrs. Wallace
W. White Jr., sister-in-law of the
bride, matron of honor, and Malcomb
P. Coleman, son of the bridegroom,
best man. Miss White was given in
marriage by John Frances Wilroy II,
nephew of Mrs. Wallace White.
Preceding the ceremony beautiful
strains of “My Heart at Thy Sweet
Voice” (Saint Saens), “Moonlight
Sonata” (Beethoven), Melodie in F”
(Rubinstein), “Nocturne in E Flat”
(Chopin) and “Traumerei” (Schu
mann) filled the house. The wedding
march of Mendelssohn signaled the
entrance of the wedding party as they
took their places before an improvised
floral-banked altar where the vows
were said.
Miss White was attired in a Dior
blue costume suit with dark blue ac
cessories. Her corsage was a white,
purule-throated orchid. Mrs. White,

with her fiance, Danny Potter, so that
they could perform during Home
coming took enthusiastic planning
and work by students, administrators,
professors and other Chowan College
personnel.
Emma, whose home is in Fayette
ville, is a popular Chowan freshman
whose folk-music concerts raised mon
ey needed to bring Danny to Chowan
for the college’s Homecoming.
Danny’s home is also in Fayette
ville, where he began singing with
Emma in high school, and they per
formed in folk clubs and coffee houses
and are largely responsible for the
success of a coffee house construct
ed and operated by members of Fay
etteville’s Snyder Memorial Baptist
Church.
A folk music concert by Emma,
planned by almost everyone at Cho
wan, was held at the college and re
ceipts used to buy Danny’s airplane
ticket from Detroit, where he is em
ployed.
Their reunion was climaxed by a
concert in the auditorium of Cho
wan’s Columns Buildiing, where they
performed before a near-capacity
audience. Homecoming night.

orchid.
The former Miss White was the
only daughter of the late Mr. and
Mrs. Walter W. White and the sister
of the late W. Wallace White, Jr., all
of Boykins. She is a member of the
faculty of Chowan College.
Mr. Coleman is the son of Henry
G. Coleman, Sr., deceased, and Mrs.
Ina J. Coleman of Durham. Mr. Cole
man is the brother of the former
missionary. Miss Ina Belle Coleman,
and the Rev. Dr. Rupert Coleman,
minister of Southside Baptist Church,
Lakeland, Fla. He is a retired sales
supervisor.
Wedding Breakfast
After the ceremony, Mrs. Julian
Porter of Severn and Mrs. R. Kelly
White were hostesses at a wedding
breakfast for the wedding party and
guests, who were members of the
immediate families. Miss Una White
and Mrs. R. Jennings White assisted
the hostesses in serving.
Immediately following the breakfast,
Mr. and Mrs. Coleman left for a
trip through the mountains of Virginia
and North Carolina. The couple will
make their home in Boykins, Va.
TOGETHER AGAIN— The singing duo of "Danny and Emma,” reunited
through the efforts of people at Chowan College, where Emma is a popular
freshman and performed in folk-music concerts to assure her reunion with her
fiance, Danny Potter, performed before a large audience in the Columns au
ditorium Homecoming night.
