About 35.6 million were in elementary school or kindergar ten, almost 13.4 million were in high school, and about 6.1 million attended college or professional school. It is anticipated that the total enrollment will exceed 0.4 million by the fall of 1975 even though the rate of growth is expected to slacken at each ed ucational level. In the 11 years from 1955 to 1966, the number of persons 5-34 years of age who were attending school on a full-or part-time basis increased by an average of 3.6 per cent annually. The average yearly enrollment gain was 2.5 per cent in elementary school, 4.8 per cent in high school and 8.9 per cent in college. By 1975 almost 8.6 million stu dents may be enrolled in col lege, according to Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. This anticipates an increase of 2.5 million over their number in 1966, and will account for almost half of the expected Increase in the total enrolled at all school levels. torious gridiron performers. Spunky and speedy girls man euvered on both squads. Sophomores had v;on the fh-st Powderpuff Bowl game and, although this year’s game evens the series at a victory apiece, the girls who were this year’s losing sophomores were also last year’s losing freshmen. A fast-paced, high - scoring In tramural AU-Star game, follow ing the Powderpuff Bowl, saw sophomores outscore freshmen, 47-27. Gaining pay dirt territory twice for the victors were Wayne Beale and Milton Ot- tiey. A touchdown apiece was also scored for the winning sophomores by Karl Gunther and Bill Sny^r. Freshman scoring assaults were led by John Tebault, whose speedy performances left onlookers gasping for breath. Bob Skiba and Fred Overmann. Onlookers, many being spec tators for intramural football for the first time, enjoyed the speedy action and pledged themselves to see much more of it at Chowan in the future. DIVORCEES DYING LOS ANGELES AP - Divorced men and women are dying at a faster rate than married per sons, according to a California census report. The figures issued by the Cali fornia Department of Public Health show that the suicide rate of divorced persons tops the figures for married persons by three to five times.
