Mary Ritchie chosen Spring Queen BEAUTIES DAZZLED the audience during the Chowan College Queen of Spring Pageant Feb. 17 when the queen for the Spring Festival was named. Deborah Pickett Princess Mary Ritchie of Asheboro has been named Queen of Spring at Chowan College. Her selection was announced during the Queen of Spring Pag eant held Feb. 17 in McDowell Columns. Miss Ritchie repre sented the Superintendent’s Bar racks and Stone Cottage in the pageant. Honors as Freshman Princess went to Deborah Lynne Pickett of Richmond representing the McDowell Columns. Selected as members of the court were sophomores Pauline Robinson, Ahoskie; Susan Bro thers, Walstonburg; Pat Clifton, Blackstone, Va.; and Donna Burnette, Newport News, Va. Freshman members of the court are Debbie Vinson, of Portsmouth; Paige Buren, of Prince George, Va.; and Ame lia Garner, Newport. Talent contest The eight freshmen and eight sophomore candidates were judged on the basis of beauty, talent, poise, and personality. Miss Ritchie’s talent presenta tion was an impromptu baller ina while Miss Pickette's was a modern dance. Miss Ritchie is a graduate of Asheboro High School. Her par ents, Mr. and Mrs. T. M. Ritchie live at 500 Cliff Road. She was secretary of the freshman class and is presently co-social chair man of the Student Government Assoication. She is planning a career in ballet. A graduate of Hermitage High School, Miss Pickett’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. F. D. Pickett of 7306 Kenneth Drive, Rich mond, Va. The pageant was sponsored by the Women's Recreation Assoc iation, Mrs. Janet Collins, spon sor. The queen will reign over the Spring Festival to be held April 25. BALLET DANCE was pre sented by Miss Ritchie dur ing the talent portion of the Spring Festival pageant. The new Queen of Spring plans a career in ballet. MODERN DANCE was pre sented by Miss Pickett who was chosen as the best of the freshman contestants. PAGE TWO The Chowanian
