r f. This is Basketball? Fast-paced action sparked the annual Faculty-Staff vs. Student basketball game several weeks ago. The photo above depicts some of the fast court ac tion, and may reveal why the faculty-staff team needed a “big assist” from the scorekeeper to tie the students. Frank Stephenson, Jr., project direc tor of the Upward Bound Program, has been named a Citation Winner for the 1977 National Volunteer Activist Awards. He is the only North Carolina citizen receiving this honor. Stephenson was notified in a letter from George Romney, chairman of the board for the National Center for Voluntary Ac tion, with headquarters in Washington D.C. Stephenson was also commended by Dr. Sandra C. Thomas, executive director, Governors Office of Citizen Affairs. She noted, “It is quite an honor, indeed that you are among the 50 citation winners selected from over 700 nominees across the country. We, in North Carolina, are ex tremely proud of this accomplishment and also of your leadership in volunteer ac tivities in our state.” Stephenson was earUer selected by Governor Jim Hunt as North Carolina Adult Volunteer of the Year. The National Center for Voluntary Ac tion awarded Stephenson the honor for his volunteer activities in many different fields throughout North Carolina over a sustained period of 12 years. In his letter, Romney said, “The Na tional Volunteer Activist Awards are an important part of the National Center for Voluntary Action’s major goal: to stimulate new responses to America’s most pressing needs through the greater recognition, utilization, and coordination of volunteers. We hope that many other citizens will follow your lead and become motivated to volunteer. We truely believe that through the contributions of millions of private citizens working together we can directly improve the quality of life for each person in America.” Dr. Thomas conunented, “Governor Hunt has placed, among the highest priorities in his administration, citizen in volvement and volunteerism in North Carolina. Mr. Stephenson is to be com mended for the leadership which has ex hibited in North Carolina. I join many others across the state in congratulating him on the fine achievement. ” Stephenson, 38, is married to the former Margaret Long of Richmond, Va., and they are the parents of two boys and one girl. FORMER GA PROFESSOR HEADS PRINTING PLANT Harold David Perry (former instructor in the Graphic Arts Department) is employed by the University of Missouri as director of the university’s printing plant.
