Bank Executives Named To Board of Advisors Robert E. Lee, chief executive officer and executive vice president of Tarheel Bank and Trust Company, Gatesville, and Overton S. (Buck) Suiter, Jr., senior vice president of Planters National Bank, Ahoskie, have been appointed to the Board of Advisors. The announcement was made recently by Dr. Bruce E. Whitaker, president. In making the announcement. Dr. Whitaker said among other duties advisors serve as interpreters of the college in their communities. He said a heavy demand on their time from their work and other civic and community service, Chowan’s advisors find time to devote their interest and energies to the college. He said their “suggestons and ideas serve to strengthen all phases of the operation of the college.” Washington Native Lee, a native of Washington, is vice chairman of the Gates County Development Commission. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Northeastern North Carolina Chamber of Commerce and Northeastern Rural Health Development Association, of which he also serves as vice chairman. Lee is a member of the Board of Trustees of Roanoke Chowan Technical Institute and a member of the Endowment Committee of Chowan College. He is a member of the Primary Care Task Force, Eastern Carolina Health System Agency. Lee attended East Carolina University, the School of Banking of the South at Louisiana State University, and the Carolinas School of Banking at the University of North Carolina. He is a member of the North Carolina Bankers Association Bank Security Committee. Lee and his wife, Joyce, have a daughter. Erica Anne, who will enroll at Chowan as a freshman in the fall, and a son, Robert E. Lee, II, a senior at Lenoir-Rhyne College. Duke Graduate Suiter is a member of the Vestry at St. Thomas Episcopal Church. He is a member of the Ahoskie Rotary Club and chairman of both the Hertford County Industrial Development Commission and the U.S. Savings Bonds program in Hertford County. He and his wife, Elizabeth, have two children, Virginia, 17, and O. Stokes Suiter, III, 14. DANSURFACE ROBERT E. LEE OVERTON SUITER, JR. Surface Named PE Department Chairman Dan Surface has rejoined the faculty and coaching staff as chairman and professor of health and physical education. He will serve as defensive coordinator in football, replacing Linwood Ferguson who accepted a position as defensive line coach at Elon College. Surface served at Chowan from 1970 to 1975, when he accepted a position as health and physical education teacher and head football coach at Floyd County High School in Floyd, Va. He also coached the tennis and J.V. basketball teams. He has served as a health and physical education teacher and coach with Fairfax, Va. and Greensboro public schools. Surface attended the College of William and Mary and is a graduate of Guilford College with the A.B. and the University of Tennessee at Knoxville with the M.S. In college, he was a member of the footbaU and baseball teams. During his previous service at Chowan, the defense annually received high national rankings. Surface and his wife, Sallie, have three children, Eric, 8; Julianne, 5; and Brian, 2. r CLDTON COLLINS Collins President Of NCASFAA Group Clifton S. Collins, director of student financial aid at Chowan College, has been elected president of the North Carolina Association of Student Financial Aid Ad ministrators for 1979-80. He previously served as treasurer and president-elect of the 200-member organization which represents the majority of the state’s post-secondary schools. As president, he will represent the North Carolina Association as a member of the Board of Directors of the Southern Association of Student Financial Aid Ad ministrators. An Emporia, Va. native, Collins came to Chowan in December, 1965. He has served as director of financial aid since July, 1970. He is a graduate of the University of Richmond, East Carolina University, and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.
