Colclough Named Resident Director For Parker Hall Scott H. Colclough of Durham has joined the Student Development staff as resident director of Parker Hall, nine-story residence hall for 280 men which is named in honor of Elwood W. Parker of Mur freesboro. Colclough’s responsibilities are to pro vide residents of Parker HaU with an en vironment which promotes study and per sonal development, safety and security and the rights of privacy and responsible freedom. “Since Mr. Colclough has both interest and the ability, he will assist in the Department of Athletics with the football and basketball programs,” said Dean Clayton Lewis. Colclough’s B.S. degree is from Camp- beU University in health and physical education. His M.A. degree is from East Carolina in health, physical education and recreation. He served as a teacher and coach in South Granville High School. Owens of Asheville has joined the Student Development staff as Director of Counseling and Career Development. Her responsibilities will focus on testing and orientation, personal, transfer and career counseling, and developmental courses in study skills and human poten tial. “Since Miss Owens has both the interest and ability, she will assist in the Depart ment of Athletics as coach of the varsity softball team for women,” said Claj^ton Lewis, dean of students. “The women’s athletic program is receiving greater at tention and Miss Owens can be of help to the college in this area, too, ’’continued Dean Lewis. Owens received the B.S. degree in health and physical education and the M.A. degree in guidance, counseling and higher education personnel services from Western Carolina University. She comes to Chowan from Tallulah Falls School in Georgia. Tallulah Falls is a private boar ding school which is owned and operated by the Women’s Confederation of Georgia. Strong Volleyball Squad Expected Six freshmen who collected numerous honors and awards for their high school teams in three states have signed athletic grants-in-aid to play volleyball at Chowan College, according to coach, Mrs. Janet Collins. The North Carolina players are Terri Tyler of Raeford, Wanda Bacote of Charlotte, Mary Bishop of Durham, and Belva Tharpe of Fayet teville. Others receiving grants-in-aid are Marina Hewett of Deerfield, N.H. and Patti P« .trick of Easton, Md. Tyler is a setter and co-captain for the Lady Braves. She was named All Conference and to the Southeastern 4A All District Team as a member of the Hoke County High School squad in 1978. Bacote, a hitter, captained the Harding High School team in 1978 when she was named All Con ference. She was Harding’s Most Improved Player in 1977 and Most Valuable Player in 1978. Harding placed second in the state last year. Bishop was a member of the conference and touranment champion Northern High School team and was named All Conference in 1977-78. She is a hitter. * Tharpe, a setter, captained the Seventy First Senior High School team in 1977-78. She was nam ed All Division HI and All Conference and was her team’s Most Valuable Player in 1978. A hitter, Hewett played in the state playoffs and was named the Most Valuable Player on the Coe Brown Academy team in 1978. Patrick, a setter, received the “Unsung Hero” award her senior year at Easton High School.
