Chowan raised the $2.5 million for the new gymnasium-physical educa

Swimming Pool Named in Memory
Of Rufh Camp Campbell of Franklin
The Olympic-size swimming pool in the new gymnasium-physical education
center will be named in memory of Ruth Camp Campbell of Franklin, Va.
The late Ruth Camp Campbell was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs.
Paul Douglas Camp. She supported many schools and universities and also
directly encouraged and assisted young people to attend Chowan.
Ruth Camp Campbell devoted a lifetime of service to her church, communi
ty and region. She supported many worthy causes including Franklin Baptist
Church, the Baptist Children’s Home, and Baptist Hospital of Virginia.
Chowan’s president. Dr. Bruce E. Whitaker, said he was “pleased and pro
ud” that Chowan’s new pool would carry the name of Ruth Camp Campbell.
“Throughout her lifetime she was devoted to helping young people through
Christian higher education. She was also active in advancing the work of
Christian missions and ministries and community causes.
“It is very appropriate that her name be memoralized in connection with the
beautiful pool within the new gymnasium- physical education center that will
enable Chowan to increase its service to its students and the entire area,” Dr.
Whitaker noted.
