Work of ECU Art Faculty On Exhibit An exhibition of works by the art faculty of East Carolina University will be on view during February in the Chowan Art Gallery. The exhibition is sponsored by the N.C. Museum of Art in Raleigh and its Traveling Exhibitions Program and was organized with the assitance of Dr. Richard Laing, dean of the School of Art at ECU, and Randy Osman, director of ECU’s Gray Gallery. It will travel throughout the state for one year. Featured in the exhibition are 20 works by 15 faculty members of ECU’s School of Art, representing the fine arts divison, art education, interior design and communica tion arts. In addition to a work by Laing, the exhibition includes works by William Holley, chairman of Art Education; Betty Petteway, director of graduate studies in Art; and Mel Stanforth, chairman of In terior Design. A variety of media is represented, though only two-dimensional works have been in cluded because of shipping and handling ,considerations. Most of the pieces in the show are for sale. The Traveling Exhibitions Program, in itiated almost two decades ago, continues to be one of the museum’s most popular ^statewide services. The program provides 'traveling shows to any non-profit organiza tion which can meet lighting and security requirements. Works of State's Artists Exhibited' A sampling of some of the best work being produced by contemporary North Carolina artists was exhibited in the Chowan Gallery in Daniel Hall, on loan from the N.C. Museum of Art in Raleigh in mid-January. A selection of works by 23 artists who are or have been residents of North Carolina make up the traveling N.C. Artists Exhibi- I tion, Part I. Pieces in the show were I selected from the 88 works in the 42nd N.C. f Artists Exhibition (NCAE) at the state (museum. Jurors for the 42nd NCAE were Garo An- treasian of the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, Benjamin Forgey of the Washington Star and Richard Marshall of the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City. They selected the works in the exhibition from 1,290 entries and chose which pieces would circulate in two travel ing shows. The circulating exhibition included works selected to represent the side range of media styles that characterized the NCAE. Acrylics, pen and ink, intagho and photography are among the media represented.
