Dean’s Report Dr. B. Franklin Lowe, Jr., Dean of the College, reported to the trustees and advisors on the current student enrollment, as well as information on the college’s academic programs. Convention V-P delivers address Mrs. A. Harrison Gregory, first vice presi dent of the Southern Baptist Conwention, was the featured speaker for the annual Founders’ Day Convocation on Monday, Oc tober 12. The program was held in the Jesse Helms Physical Education Center. Mrs. Gregory’s topic for the meeting of students, faculty, staff, and guests, was “Maintaining a ‘School of High Order’.” Elected in June, 1981, to her current posi tion, Mrs. Gregory is the first woman in the convention’s 136-year history to serve as first vice president. She is only the third woman ever elected to any convention of fice. Prior to the June session of the conven tion, she served for six consecutive years as president of the Woman’s Missionary Union, auxiliary to the Southern Baptist Conven tion. Tilson's church related experiences in clude serving as a full-time ministry intern, summer of 1980, Plymouth Haven Baptist Church, Alexandria, Va. He also was involv ed in summer missionary work in Oil City, Pa., in 1976 and New Orleans, La., in 1975. Tilson was active in Sunday School pro grams and served on several church com mittees while a member of Winter Park Baptist Church in Wilmington. Tilson, who is single, lists his personal hobbies as sailing and racquetball. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles V. Tilson of 4626 Long Leaf Hills Drive in Wilmington. C. In addition to his studies and campus activities, Tim also works parttime in the Department of Development. Tim is one of 450 Chowan students who work up to 20 hours a week to help pay for their college education. Without this financial aid, many of these students would not be able to remain in college. Chowan is pleased to provide and help pay for the work of students who fake this kind of in itiative. Last year, Chowan paid over $55,000 from its operating budget to students needing financial aid.
