For Who s Who Listing Outstanding students cited The 1984 edition of WHO’S WHO AMONG STUDENTS IN AMERICAN JUNIOR COLLEGES will include the name^ of 33 students from Chowan College who have been selected as national outstanding campus leaders. Campus nominating committees and editors of the annual directory have included the names of these students based on their academic achievement, service to the com munity, leadership in extracur ricular activities and potential for continued success. They join an elite group of students from more than 1,500 in stitutions of higher learning in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and several foreign nations. The National Society of Public Accountants Scholarship Founda tion has awarded 32 scholarships in the amount of $600 each for the 1983-84 academic year. Chowan students are eligible to apply for future scholarships, accor^ng to Thomas Ruffin, Department of Business Chairman. The Scholarship Foundation was formed in 1969 by the National Society’s Board of Governors in order to encourage high caliber in dividuals to select public accoun ting as a career. During the past 14 years over 330 scholarships have been awarded. The Foundation receives the majority of its funds through individual contributions from the 17,000 members of the Na tional Society of Public Accoun tants and from affiliated state organizations. Special Awards, In announcing the 32 winners, Leslie S. Shapiro, chairman of the NSPA Scholarship Foundation stated that the recipients of this year’s scholarship awards were selected to provide recognition to students at both two year and four year schools. Seventeen of the 32 recipients will be attending two year schools and 15 will be atten ding four year schools. The Foundation presented a special “Charles H. Earp Memorial Scholarship Award” to the applicant judged to be the most outstanding in competition with ac counting students from across the nation. The award honors the memory to the late Charles H. Earp who served as President of the National Society in 1980-81. The recipient of the 1983-84 Earp Memorial Award is Lee Ann Day of Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Ms. Day is a student at Hendrix College in Con way, Arkansas. In addition to the $600 scholarship award, Ms. Day will receive an additional $200 and a plaque designating her as the recipient of the Earp Memorial Award. The final winners were selected from over 1,000 students who sub mitted applications to the founda tion. All applicants were judged for scholastic achievement, financial need, and demonstrated leader ship ability. A .a-. Collins receives award Clifton S. Collins, director of financial aid at Chowan College, looks at the distinguished service award he received at the on- nual meeting of the North Carolina Association of Financial Aid Administrators. The Association recognized five of its members tor distinguished service through the years. This is the first time the Association has made the award. An Emporia, Vo. native, Collins is a post president of the Association and served on the Board of Directors of the Southern Association of Student Finan cial Aid Administrators. Chowan students eligible for accounting grants Noted professor conducts services Dr. Dale Moody, center, senior professor of Chrlstion Theology at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Louisville, Ky., com pleted an active week In Murfreesboro by ser ving as guest speaker for the annual Bible Study Institute, sponsored jointly by Chowan and the Sunday School Department of the Baptist State Convention of North Carolina. The Institute was attended by some 100 area Baptist pastors and other church leaders who met in Marks Hall auditorium. Dr. Moody also led the annual observance of Campus Evangelism Week for the members of the col lege community and was the revival speaker at Murfreesboro Baptist Church. He is shown with Chaplain R.
