Endowing the Future.
In times of economic uncertainty, a strong endowment
provides a church-related college with continuing
resources to meet immediate and long-range
challenges. Endowment Funds provide undergirding in
changing times. Chowan College, through its General
Endowment Committee, is seeking to build a General
Endowment of five million dollars as soon as possible
and to reach fifty million in a generation.
Our total endowment at present is very small. We en
courage our alumni, parents and all friends and sup
porters of Christian higher education to join us in the
great endowment effort.
Most gifts to the general endowment are gifts through
various trust funds or through provisions made in wills.
We encourage all those who believe in Chowan College to
carefully plan their estates and to include some gSt to
Chowan as they do. A careful review of your estate with
your attorney and other advisors will no doubt reveal
several opportunities for you to give, including many tax
incentives to your advantage.
Even if you feel that your estate will be most modest,
planning is recommended. At the very least, please see
your attorney and make your will.
Life insurance is often used to make an endowed gift or
establish a special endowed fund. Most to us own life
insurance policies and for many of us a gift of life in
surance has distinct personal advantages.
Gifts of appreciated property are ideal for many people
considering an endowment fund.
There are many ways to insure your continuing in
fluence through the life and service of Chowan College.
We hope that you will consider a gift in trust or by will to
Chowan College.
Unrestricted endowment gifts provide the most
flexibility to the college because they can be used
whenever the need is greatest. However, there are many
areas in which you may designate that your gift be used.
We encourage both undesignated and designated gifts.
You do not have to be wealthy to establish an endowment
fund at Chowan College. A gift of |6,250.00 will endow a
$500.00 a year scholarship or income fund, in perpetuity.
A gift of $25,000.00 will provide $2000.00 each year.
Larger amounts obviously will provide even greater
endowment resources.
