Choir sang at seven churches in
central and western North
Carolina during its annual Spring
Tour May 13-19.
The 16-member choir is directed
by Dr. James Chamblee, chairman
of the college’s Fine Arts Depart
ment. The accompanist is Mrs.
Barbara Giosnell.
The choir has toured extensively
over the years in the eastern
United States from Delaware to
Florida. The choir is active
throughout the academic year
presenting annual December holi
day and ^ring Festival concerts.
The choir.also appeeirs on the area
television stations with a taped
program of Christmas music.
Dr. Chamblee has directed the
Chowan Touring Choir since 1959.
He is a native North Carolinian and
received his A.B. and Ph.D. in
musicology from the University of
North Carolina in Chapel Hill and
M.A. from Columbia University.
He is the former director of
Raleigh Oratorio Society and the

Guidance leads to profession
at the University of North Carolina
and Medical College of Virginia
and was accepted by both. She has
decided to transfer to Chapel Hill
in the fall and enroll in the three-
year program leading to the
bachelor of science in pharmacy.
She said she may continue her
studies to pursue a doctorate
degree.
“I’d like to work in research with
a pharmaceutical firm. I think that
would be exciting,” she remarked.
Although she must devote most
of her time to her studies and
laboratory work, Edwards has
found time to serve as vice presi
dent of the Baptist Student
Union/Campus Christian
Fellowship and member of the Day
Student Organization. She has
been named to Phi Theta Kappa
for academic achievement.
“I have enjoyed my science
studies at Chowan very much,”
said the Ridgecroft graduate. “My
professors have been very
helpful.”
Dr. Faile, chairman of the
Department of Science, c«n-
mented, “The fact that she has
been accepted by the i^iarmacy
schools at both ^ University of
North Carolina at Chapel Hill and
the Medical College of Virginia
speaks well for Susanne. We’re
happy that Chowan has been able
to provide her with an academic
background in science and other
studies to help prepare her for
transfer to Chapel Hill and a future
career as a pharmacist.”
While some students will do
anything to avoid chemistry
studies, to Susanne Edwards, of
Murfreesboro, they have been the
key to unlocking her future career.
When EMwards entered Chowan
in the fall of 1983, she said she had
no idea what she wanted to do.
Because she enjoyed science, she
decided to enroU in a science cur
riculum.
Now, after taking general
chemistry her freshman year
under Mrs. Phyllis Dewar and
organic chemistry this year under
Dr. Garth Faile, she has decided to
become a pharmacist. She said
ematomy under Jim Dewar and
other science courses have also in
fluenced her to select pharmacy as
a career.
She applied to pharmacy schools
Susanne Edwards, sophomore from Murfreesboro, works on a
