Class of 1962 MR. JAMES C. MCGILL, a native of Clin ton and senior vice president with First Union National Bank, has been named the bank’s Western area executive. He has serv ed with the Army and is a former director of the Alamance County United Way. Class of 1963 MR. RAY DIXON was named Citizen of the Week in January, 1988. He works with youth at his church. Class of 1967 MR. W. J. “JERRY” BOWMAN, a native of Mount Airy, has joined Phillips Fiber Corp. in Greenville, South Carolina, as technical service representative for con tinuous filament yams. He is responsible for all Marvess olefin filament yams produced at Phillips’ Spartanburg, South Carolina, facility. MR. LEWIS N. TERRELL, JR., formerly of Monroe, has joined Davidson Federal Savings and Loan Association of Lexington as vice president. A native of Roanoke, Virginia, Terrell will be in charge of con sumer and CMnmercial lending. He has 19 years of commercial lending and retail banking experience. Class of 1968 REV. HANK (H.C.) FRANCIS was the guest evangelist during a victory, praise and worship service Dec. 3-6, 1987, at the Murfreesboro Christian Center. He also con ducted a service at the center at 10:30 a.m. Sunday morning. MS. CANDY W. ELEY has recently pass ed examinations certifying her as an Ophtahalmic Assistant. Class of 1976 MR. RICHARD S. LAYMAN left his posi tion in Virginia Beach as a computer elec tronics technician in 1986, and joined a world-wide missionary organization Youth With A Mission (YWAM). He has ministered in Hong Kong, Philippines, Thailand, Macua, China and Tebet. He is presently in Taipei, Taiwan learning Man darin Chinese, for two years and will then be assigned in the Far East area. MRS. HUGH BENJAMIN GARNER, II of Greenville and Miss Cathy Irene King of Lake Gaston were united in marriage on December 31, 1987, at Ebenezer United Methodist Chiu'ch in Darlington, South Mrs. Mary Kunkle accepts appointment to Board of Advisors Mrs. Mary D. Kunkle, of Portsmouth, has assumed a position on the Board of Ad visors, according to President Bruce E. Whitaker. Mrs. Kunkle is the widow of Dr. Herman Melvin Kunkle, former chairman of the Board of Advisors. Dr. Kunkle served for almost 35 years as an orthopaedic surgeon in Portsmouth, his native city. He died on March 12,1987. Kunkle began his service on the Board of Advisors in February 1968 and became chairman in Septembier 1973. Virginia Native A Holston, Va., native, Mrs. Kunkle received her R.N. from KnoxviUe General Hospital, Knoxville, Tenn. She served as a R. N. at McGuire Veterans Hospital, Rich mond, Va., and R.N. and financial secretary. Orthopaedic Surgery Ltd., Port smouth, where her husband practiced medicine. A member of Western Branch Baptist Church, Mrs. Kunkle has served in com munity activities as a volunteer worker for the R^ Cross and Hospital Auxiliary. She is part president of the Portsmouth Academy of Medicine Auxiliary. Mother of Four Children Mrs. Kunkle is membership chairman for the International Flying Nurses Associa tion. She has four children, Melvin, 40; James A., 39; Timothy L., 34; and Mary K. Goodenow, 29. Dr. Whitaker said he was pleased that Mrs. Kunkle had accepted the invitation to serve as a Chowan advisor. He said that among other duties advisors serve as inter preters of the college in their communities. Whitaker noted, “Despite a heavy de mand on their time from their work and other civic and community service, Chowan advisors find time to devote their interest and energies to the college.
