Dr. Whitaker to retire
after 32 years as President
After leading Chowan College to its “highest plateau in
every measurable way” and to a position of national
prominence, Dr. Whitaker has announced his retirement
effective June 30, 1989. He is the 18th President of the
institution, which has operated “in the black” for the last 30
