Chief of Police John T. McKeman informs The Express that the water in the lake at the pumping station has dropped down two feet below the spillway since the dry weather setdrr. There is a possibility that should there be a protracted! dry spell in August and the first of (he fall) it would I>e necessary to turn the water from the new lake into the pond at the pump ing station. The waiter has not yet been turned into (he new clear water basin as the concrete has not proper : ly seasoned and dried ,out. It will 1 probably be ready to receive (he water by the last of next week. t Mr. and Mrs. Percy Rockefeller and their valet spent an hour or two in Sanford Wednesday evening while waiting for a passenger train over the Seaboard Air Line to carry them back, to New York. They had been at their game preserve near Overhills in Har nett County. While -here Mr. Rocke feller discussed the financial condi tion of the country and expressed the' opinion that things would continue to improve unless some mistake should be made at Washington. He stated (hat Florida was fast coming “back to: its own.” He said the real estate busi ness was becoming more active e’oery day and that land was advancing in price. Although traps were placed ail Over Sanford and in many sections of the.; county, no Japanese beetles have been found by those who made the survey. These traps were placet in 63 towns and cities' of the state and' the beetles were found in 11 town and cities, but iio( including any in Lee. In the sum-j mer of 1932, the beetles were found only in Raleigh, Durham and- Winston Salem. Hence, Dr. Leiby reports the insect has spread to Various parts of the State. A total of 24 beetles were taken in the traps set. The beetle is bronzy-green in color and about the size of a June bug. Ten graduated and a number attended who could not be there all the time and failed to get their course completed.
