The * list of applicants has been received by persons who were listed as references by the several! candidates. It is now learned that Mr. S. V. Scott, Acting Postmaster, has entered the race. Foi lowing are the candidates who are now m_the race: S. V. Scott, Mrs. C. L. Scott, E. A. Griffin, F. E. Street, T. E. Coley, C. M. Beeves, J. H. Hen ley, S. J„ Husketh, Mrs. Gladys Smith Jordan, Frank Brinn, D. D. Riddle. • .URGED TO BACK TAX Approximately 500 Lee county farm era in mass meeting here unanimously adopted a resolution offered by K. E. Seymour, asking Senators Josiah W. Bailey and Robert R. Reynolds, and Congressman Walter Lambeth to vote for and to use their influence for the! continuation of the cotton processing tax as now set up. The meeting was called by county agent E. O. McMahan for the purpose of explaining) to the tobacco and cot ton growers the new rulings involving the 1935 contracts. It is planned by the First Baptist church to construct two buildings on the lot in rear of the church facing on Steele street. One will be used as a parsonage by the pastor of the church and the other one will be Lor rent. At a jneeung of the Hoard of deacons Monday night the following building committee was appointed to have charge of the construction of build ings: Charles P. Rogers, W. A. Crab itree and Jarvis Brooks. • Mr. W. R. Hardness will have charge of the con dtruction work. The building that is on the lot wilt be removed and much of the material will be used in the new buidings. We are informed that there is now not a vaacant dwelling house in Sanford. Two years ago there could be found on about every street in the town many empty houses. House; are now in demand. - The Ladies’ Missionary Society of' Turners’ Chapel Church will serve a chicken and fish supper on Tuesday night, May 17th.,- beginning at 6 ^o’clock at the Colon Community Club * House. The proceeds to be used for < the church. A. A. P. Seawell, lx., who has been with Judge J. T. McPherson, of the Recorder^ Colrt in his office at this place for several months, plans; to leave for Raleigh this week where he will become special investigator for the. Committee .oa Grievances and to assist the Secretary of the North Carolina State Bar in his work.. His many friends at this place wish hhn much success in his new field of Mrs. J. W.
