French, of Wilmington, and Mrs. Elias Richards, of Lynchburg, Va., were guests at the Howey House Sunday. Mr. C. L. Stevens returned Saturday from several days visit with relatives in New Bern. Mr. Thomas Fulwood, who is on the U. S. dredge Manhatten, stationed at Tampa, Fla., is home on a ten-day vacation. Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Fraley and son, of Greensboro, spent the past week at the Grimes House. They have been coming here every summer since the world war. i Mrs. Fraley is very talented in I music and plays for a nine-piece orchestra in Greensboro. She played for little Miss Enid Jackson to dance several times while here. Mrs I. B. Bussels and daughter returned home Monday from a visit to Raleigh and Greensboro. Mrs. Bernice Stalling, Mrs. Bailey and Mrs. Powell, of Wilmington, attended the initiation in the Eastern Star Chapter of Southport Monday night. Mr. and Mrs. George Whatley and Miss Nancy Hood attended the ball game and picture show in Wilmington Friday. Mrs. H. N. Porter returned Sunday from a trip to Albany, j N. MEMORIAL SERVICE A memorial service was held Thursday morning at the local colored cemetery, more than 100 colored people of this community taking part in the ceremony. The crowd paraded through the down-town district of Southport shortly before noon.
