H. Maultsby, who was at home for the holidays, is doing nicely pursuing her course at East Carolina Teacher's College, Greenville. She is to graduate in' the spring. LARGE PORKER Walton Maultsby recently killed a large hog. He weighed over five , hundred pounds. You don't have to leave Brunswick to find all the thrifty farmers. NEW OFFICE J. D. Johnson is building a small office near his mill to take care of the much business and bookkeeping necessary to his large lumber trade. PRESBYTERIAN Rev. J. R. Page, Superintendent Brunswick Baptist Woman's Missionary Union, found that Southport Baptist church gave more to the Lott'e Moon Christntas offering than they have ever given, and as Usual leads the Baptist churches of Brunswick in their offering which is given in honor of Miss Lottie Moon, Missionary to China. She reached China near Christmas time, refused to accept a furlough at Christmas because there was no one to take her plate, gave her long life to save many Chinese and died one Christmas eve. BOLIVIA SCHOOL NEWS VKW BUILDING Everyone has been pleased to know that material for our new agricultural building is being delivered and that construction begins this week. DOUBLE VICTORY The Bolivia boys and girls basketball teams added another victory to their list when tney defeated Dixon high school in a double header on the Bolivia floor. The Bolivia girls, '-xl by Stone and Mercer as forwards, ran the score up on the Dixon sextet, 32-7. The first teem guards, Solved, Mills and Johnson, held the rvivnn unnrR t r\ thiv .* noints through the third quarter. The Rolivia second team took over the game at the beginning of the fourth quarter and played on even terms for the rest of the game. The Bolivia boys defeated the strong and fast Dixon team 19-14, Lesh leading in the victory with 12 points. NEXT WEEK The girls basketball team expects to battle with the New Hanover high school girls on the Wilmington court next Friday light, February 3. We don't expect our girls to let us down. CHAPE*, PROGRAM The seventh grade will conduct chapel next Friday morning. PLAY CAST The cast of the Junior Class play, "Her Honor the Mayor", .vhich is to be presented on February 24, includes the following: Elizabeth Lewis, Kemp Hold?n, Milts Mercer, Alton McKeithin, Gladys Hilburn, Mavis Brown, Lucy Hand, and Ina Glenn Vtaultsby. CONTEST The high school, grammar grade, and elementary departments are competing to see which will have the lowest percentage of absences during the month. Each grade in the school is competing against all other grades for the same honor. LELAND SCHOOL NEWS LELAND, Feb. 1?Miss Gertrude Maultsby's first grade class is busily engaged in improving the looks of their room. They have painted their sandtable and are now painting pictures to hang in their room. The other first grade class, with Mrs. Knox as teacher, is now taking up the study of Eskimos. They are also planning to learn some new songs. The fourth grade has gained six new pupils since the Christmas holidays. Marion Barefoot and Effie Konetis from Wilmington, Mary Suggs from Shallotte, Doris Padgett from Acme-Delco, James Cox from South Carolina and L. D. Potter from Magnolia. We are very glad to have these new members with us. We are very busy preparing for our fifth month tests. One of the members of 7tli grade, Eloise Skipper, has recently undergone an operation for appendicitis. We are very glad that she is improving and will soon be in school with us again. The ninth grade will have charge of our Chapel program tomorrow, Feb. 1. We are looking forward to an enjoyable program concerning historical men.
