We are glad to say that both of four teams did some very splendid work although the girls were defeated. We know that the girls are excellent players and are sure that they are going to win some games before the season is over. SIXTH GRADE Last week, members of the sixth grade class studied the lives : of famous men who were born during that week. All of this was 'outside work. The pupils mostly , studied what these characters coni tributed to the growth of our 'country. Some of the most famious men kere: Edgar Allen Poe, {Benjamin Franklin and Robert E. Lee. They also organized a club I dividing it into two sections. These i sections will take turn in presenting a program each Friday morning during the room period. The purpose of the club is to teach the {students Parliamentary Law. FIELD TRIP Mr. Wheless made arrangements l to take his Physics class on a field trip to Wilmington, Thursday. The most important places of interest were: White's Ice Cream Co., Dr. Pepper Bottling Plant and Plate Ice Co. The Physics students were required to write reports on this trip. SICKNESS Quite a number of our students have been out of school on the account of colds and flu. However, most of them have recovered and are able to be back in school. By taking the right precaution we hope to keep down 'an epidemic in our school. LITERARY NIGHT ! The O. SOUTHPORT SCHOOL NEWS With so much illness and ba< weather conditions keeping i number of students from school the activities in our building an not at their highest peak. However, the fortunate ones are stil carrying on the regular work ii all classes. RECITERS AND DECLAMERS The reciters and declamers hav i started work on their recitation and declamations. There are i good number which seems inter ested in speaking and we ar looking forward to a good pro gram. At present they are select ing their speeches, each trying ti get the piece that is most suite; for him. BASKETBALL The Southport basketball team met the Shallotte teams in game in the Shallotte gymnasium las Thursday night. Southport los both games, the girls' score beinj 21-11 and the boys' score beinj 21 to 9. There were few players avail able due to illness. Brother and Jack Christian, Ru dolph Sellers and John O'Danic left Southport Saturday mornin and arrived in the city that aftei noon to witness snow drifts, fine basketball game and a s.nal tering of college life. What thei real impression was can only b obtained from a conversation wit them. They saw one of the fir est teams in the state when Aj palachian College, defeated Hig Point. Some say it was the fir I est they ever saw. Later in the Season the South port boys may battle the Hig Point freshman team. Then thei experiences can be really terme as first-hand. They, however, decided to wait for a touch of warm weather. They are still waiting. Even with some of the growers three or four weeks behind their normal time of planting, none seem to be bothered.
