The following clubs were organized: The dramatics club, the glee club, the boy's physical education club, and the girl's physical education club. The dramatics club under the j direction of Mrs. Lingle has elected the following officers: President, Victoria Lancaster; vicepresident; Othelia Outlaw; secretary, Lula Marie Swan; treasurer, Dan Smith. The students seem to be very much interested in the club this year, so we hope to have a most successful club. The glee club is hoping to turn out some good work this year under the direction of Miss Butler. She has been trying out the pupils voices to see who really can sing. The boy's physical education club, under the direction of Mr. Moye, has been practicing football, as that seems to be the most popular sport at the present. We are glad to sec so many interested in athletics, because we hope to win some basketball games this year. The girl's physical education club, under the direction of Miss Stephenson, has elected the following officers: President, Joy Arnold; vice-president, Evelyn Hickman; secretary, Jeanette Tyndall; treasurer, Doris Price. All the girls seem to be very much interested in the club and hope to make considerable progress this year. CARNIVAL Last Thursday evening in the gymnasium a Hallowe'en carnival was sponsored by the home economics girls and the athletic club. The gymnasium wjis decorated Avonwo Qivl hltif If strofl mprs pine boughs corn stalks, and pumpkins. The different booths offered the boys and girls a chance to play bingo, guess the number of beans in a jar, have their fortunes told, take chances on a cake, and buy hot dogs and lemonade. The jitter-bug contest was won by Doris Corlett and Dan Early Wells. In the Kiddie Parade Jean Evelyn Thompson won the prize for the best costume. The highlight of the evening was a popularity contest. A boy and girl had been chosen from each class from the sixth through the eleventh grade. Those twelve candidates did their best to win the title of the King and Queen of the Carnival. Votes were sold at a penny a vote. A week of voting and strong competition took place before the queen, Jessie Lancaster, and the king. Brother Christian, were crowned rulers of the carnival, amid the shouting and cheering of their supporters.
