Her exhibits included paintings, wrought iron plaques, a very old screen, tables, chinaware, lacquer ware, wood carving, and examples of Japanese flower arranging. Her talk covered the methods of making the various articles and gave the members an interesting picture of art in Japan. During the business session, Mrs. James Carr newly elected chairman of the ways and means department, was appointed to fill the unexpired term of Mrs, L. C. Fergus. Refreshments of punch and various sandwiches, cakes and candy were served the guests from the attractively appointed table in the dining room. Hostesses with Mrs. Ruark were Mesdames R. S. Harrison, A. K. Vitou, L. C. Fergus and H. C. Corlette. Jr. JUNIOR-SENIOR The annual Junior-Senior banquet of Shallotte high school was held in the gymnasium on Friday evening, April 18. The program and decorations carried out a patriotic theme. A huge canopy of red, white and blue streamers formed an inclosure in which were set the colorfully decorated tables. Vases of mixed flowers, composed of red carnations, white lilies and larkspur, and blue-tinted Queen Anne's lace added to the tricolor effect, which was also evi dent in the place cards, favors and program folders. Mrs. H. C. Stone acted as master of ceremonies. The program read as follows: Song, "I Am an American", by all; prayer by Mr. Harry Mintz, Jr.; welcome by Leffis Bennett; toast to the Seniors by Maggie Hewett; response by Roderic Bellamy; toast to the faculty by Olenda Robinson; response by Miss Ida Creech; toast to the county superintendent by Doris Robinson; response by Miss Annie May Woodside. After the formal program, the guests enjoyed informal jokes, toasts, and songs. The singing of "Good night, Ladies", was the signal for departure. The home economics department, under the direction of Miss Corinne Grune served the delicious three-course dinner. The waitresses were dressed in red, white and blue costumes. They were as follows; Minaree Brown, Aradella Long, Annie Merle Pigott, Ruby Hewett, Eloise Bellamy, Lucille Milliken, Louise Leonard, and Missouri Nelson.
