examples of Japanese art which
she brought with her from that
country. Her exhibits included
paintings, wrought iron plaques,
a very old screen, tables, chinaware,
lacquer ware, wood carving,
and examples of Japanese
flower arranging. Her talk covered
the methods of making the
various articles and gave the
members an interesting picture
of art in Japan.
During the business session,
Mrs. James Carr newly elected

JUNIOR-SENIOR
The annual Junior-Senior banquet
of Shallotte high school was
held in the gymnasium on Friday
evening, April 18. The program
and decorations carried out
a patriotic theme.
A huge canopy of red, white
and blue streamers formed an
inclosure in which were set the
colorfully decorated tables. Vases
of mixed flowers, composed of
red carnations, white lilies and
larkspur, and blue-tinted Queen
Anne's lace added to the tricolor
effect, which was also evi
dent in the place cards, favors
and program folders.
Mrs. H. C. Stone acted as
master of ceremonies. The program
read as follows: Song, "I
Am an American", by all; prayer
by Mr. Harry Mintz, Jr.; welcome
by Leffis Bennett; toast to the
Seniors by Maggie Hewett; response
by Roderic Bellamy; toast
to the faculty by Olenda Robinson;
response by Miss Ida
Creech; toast to the county superintendent
by Doris Robinson;
response by Miss Annie May
Woodside.
After the formal program, the
guests enjoyed informal jokes,
toasts, and songs. The singing of
"Good night, Ladies", was the
signal for departure.
The home economics department,
under the direction of Miss
Corinne Grune served the delicious
three-course dinner. The
waitresses were dressed in red,
white and blue costumes. They
were as follows; Minaree Brown,
Aradella Long, Annie Merle
Pigott, Ruby Hewett, Eloise Bellamy,
Lucille Milliken, Louise
Leonard, and Missouri Nelson.
The sponsor for the Junior
class, and director of the banquet,
was Mr. Marion Gatlin, science
