Mr. Smith is the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Smith, Bolivia, and for the past five years was an agent for the Vemco Music Co., Fayetteville. He enlisted in the U. S. Marine Corps. Reserve last April and is now stationed at the Marine Barracks Charleston Navy Yard, Charleston, S. C. Mr. and Mrs. Smith are residing at 12 Halsey St., Charleston, S. C. Finch, Mrs. Lizzie Southerland and Rev. A. L. Brown attended .the Baptist Association held at Longwood Baptist church last Wednesday and Thursday. SOUTHPORT SCHOOL NEWS SCRAP DRIVE The Brunswick county branch of he State Highway Department is now busily moving the huge scrap metal and rubber pile from the Southport school yard. The highway department is moving the junk free of charge. This fact coupled with wholehearted cooperation of students, parents, teachers, and friends has made this endeavor an outstanding success for us and the U. S. Government. We have delivered an amount averaging 112 lbs. per enrolled pupil ? our goal being 200 lbs. per pupil enrolled. Help us make it. HALLOWE'EN PARTY On Friday night Southport school and the P.-T. A. will sponsor a Hallowe-en Carnival, beginning at 7:00. A program composed of skits given by each grade, a dress parade, raffling of the cake, and the crowning of the King and Queen, will take place in the auditorium. Come with jingling pockets to put your choice for Queen and King on the throne. Boxes have been placed at various businesses downtown for your convenience in voting for your favorite. After the program everyone is invited to the gym for an evening of fun ? bingo, horror house, fish pond, bobbin' for apples a country store, fortune telling, and numerous side shows. And, too, are you interested in good things to eat? If so, you will find them at the 8th grade lunch stand ? hot dogs, chicken salad sandwiches, pies, candy, peanuts, and punch. Come out, enjoy yourself and support the school. The second grade have their room decorated for Hallowe'en. The witches, bats, and Jack-Olanterns are gaily waiting for our carnival Friday night. The- Baby Contest will be carried on in a similar manner. Parents wishing to enter children's names may do so for a fee of five cents through students to teacher. Various side shows, music and contests will be offered free. A small admission fee will be charged at the door. All those entering a box for auction will be admitted free.
