First Man Killed
On German Soil
It was stated in a news story
several weeks ago that Pfc. Jasper
C. Mercer, son of Mr. and
Mrs. J. Lee Mercer, of Bolivia,
was the first Brunswick man killed
on German soil during the present
war.
As a matter of record, the first
Brunswick man killed in Germany
was Roscoe F. Long, son of Mr.
and Mrs. W. Hosea Long, of Supply.
He was killed on October 2,
1944 and young Mercer met his
death the following month, November
22, 1944.

Mrs. Ida Ellis is a medical patient,
having entered on last Thursday.

received treatment for burns from
Friday until Tuesday.
Judy Carol Varnum of Supply
was a medical patient from Friday
until Tuesday.
Baby Hanna Frink of Shallotte
was a medical patient from
Saturday until Tuesday.

is at home on a furlough and
awaiting reassignment. He has
just returned from 44 months
service in the Pacific. He was j
serving at Pearl Harbor when the
Japs made their historic raid.

In Memphis, Tenn.
Mrs. Magalene Goff Bellamy
and Aliss Earlie Lewis, of Bolivia,
have returned home from Memphis,
Tenn., where they went to
see Pfc. G. M. Bellamy, who was
wounded in France on July 13. He
is now in a hospital in Memphis,
having arrived there the first of,
the year.
The young soldier was found to'
be in almost perfect condition. He
expects to be completely recovered
and to be home soon.
While in Tennessee, Mrs. Bellamy

was especially nice through the
Blue Ridge and Great Smoky
