Potter, general freight agent < f the Atlantic Coast Line, also got on the train in Wilmington. He acted as general courtesy dispenser all the way to Rocky Mount. There he telegraphed New York and then served as Red Cap in: getting us fixed on the Pullman. | I Th.ee hours late the next morn-| ing the train rolled through the Hudson Tunnel and into the Pennsylvania Station. Joe Callihan, traveling passenger agent for the i . Ccust Line, was waiting at tire' steps. He said: "The boss told me I to meet ycu and everything you do in New York is on the Atlan-1 i tic Coast Line." Our meeting with the folks was not set to occur until the next day at 11:00 o'clock. Joe had his I pocket fUil of tickets to things. We did the sight-seeing buses, j the taxicabs, the elevated trains, j the subway cxp: ess trains and the elevators in New York's tallest buildings. Whenever we sought to reach our hands into our pocket Joe would make a restraining gesture. It snowed in New York the night before we got there, snowed again the night we were there j and was snowing the night we j left. On the morning of the scheduled meeting we filled in the in-1 terval with u continuance of the program of the day before. This included a meeting with Kip Partington, Wall Street b:oker, who is also by way of being known as one of the most celebrated salt water fishing sportsmen in the United States. His hobby is being i editor of : alt water fishing in Hunting and Fishing. Among othor things, all pleasing, Kip said:! j "Boy, there is no place on the Atlantic coast more potential of. j being developed into a great spot t j fishing center than Southport." j H IMG, NEW E ! > RECENTLY mug Males, | As You've 1 ien. Kip was there <| with an arm full of charts in' n support of his contentions. So J were some other Wall Street men. Iw There are no military secrets re- tl lative to the meeting and all-that n transpired, just a temporary b blackout. The key figure in the b gathering advised us that he was t coming to Southport this week on The Atlantic Coas Line. \ As chance Vould have it, we ( shared a seat cn the Dixie Flyer pulled by two huge engines and F consisted of 32 coaches, with a v young Army officer. He was J traveling all of the way from Maine to Louisiana in the day % ccach and was visibly tired out. = In response to inquiries he said he j hoped to pick up a reservation somewhere along the line. If he ^ failed he would have to get his ^ sleep sitting up. We sort of thrilled with satis- (1 faction at riding home in the j, day coach instead of being in a comf -rtab'e Fullman bc-th and dc- j. priving some service man cf the s good use he could put to it. g Getting off the train from the j north in Wilmington, last week, j. we encounte.ee! a friend who po- j. litely asked where we had been and how we liked the looks of the t place? At the moment the only ^ response we could make was that t the looks of the things made ev- v erything here seem as flat as a r flounder.
