Reigel To Build
Huge Paper Mill
$6,300,000 Plant Certified
By CPA For Reigel Pa
per Corporation At Acme
A $6,300,000 paper manufactur
ing plant to be located on the
Cape Fear river north of Acme,
about 18 miles from Wilmington,
is being- planned by the Reigel
Paper company, New York.
The disclosure was made by
Walker Hamilton, vice-president
of the company, after the Civilian
Production administration grant
ed a permit for the project.
The company, which has a local
office at Bolton, owns about 140,
000 acres of timber in Brunswick
and Columbus counties. The huge
tract, which will furnish a prac

program.
Hamilton said that the grant
ing of the construction permit by
CPA did not necessarily mean an
early erection of the factory. Full
details, he explained, are still be
ing worked out.
Although Hamilton could give
no official estimate on how many
persons the plant would employ,
a plant of this proposed size cus
tomarily uses several hundred
men.

MAKES SUGGESTIONS
FOR EFFECTIVENESS |
Careful Planning And Fire- ;

Asked what farmers can do to
protect themselves while assuring
efficient production, the NFPA
urged a 6-point program, advising
farmers to look first to their
buildings where most fires orig
inate. Inspect every building on
the form and make sure: ?
1. Trash, rubbish, waste paper,
old clothing, feed bags, bedding,
and the like, are removed and
turned in for salvage. Fires orig
inate in debris, which likewise
serves as tinder for any spark or
carelessly tossed match.
2. Dust, cobwebs, shavings and
other flammable materials, are
cleaned away from fuse boxes,
motor, and other electrical de
vices to avoid flash fires. Re
place worn extension cords, and
repair defective equipment.
3. The heating plant and the
chimney are clean. Replace worn
parts. Repair cracks in masonry
joints in the chimney, and install
a spark arrester if the roof is
not protected with fire ? resistant
roofing.
4. Lightning rod connections are
tight, not loosened by winter's
wind, snow and ice.
5. All buildings are in good re
pair, that roofs are weathertight.
Water seeping into a building rots
the structure, and water dripping
into properly cured hay may re
sult in spontaneous combustion. If
a new roof is needed, select a
fire-resistant roofing material,
such as asphalt shingles, metal,
or asbestos. Cover badly split,
cracked side walls preferably with
fire-resistant siding. Repair brok
en flooring and steps for safety
and efficiency.

Liberalization Of Hospital
Association Policy Means
That Each Policyholder
Now Is Entitled To Three

The board of directors of the
State Hospital Association, Inc.,
of Tarboro, has just authorized
its agents in the 100 counties of
North Carolina to enroll members
in the Association based on 90
days of hospital sex-vice instead
of the 30 days that has been in
force. James M. Harper, South
port special agent for Brunswick
county, said today.
The Association has enrolled
over 100,000 members during its
existence.
At the same time the directors
also authorized an increase from
30 to 90 days per year on all its
members. This means that every
member of the family, insured
under the Association's certificate,
is entitled to 90 days a year. A
five-family membership entitles
them to 450 days per year hos
pital care at the Association's ex
pense. The type of room de-.

Progress Comes
To Howell's Point
i
Development Of One Of
Brunswick County's Most
Interesting Seaside Loca
tions Hampered By Bad
Roads
I
Taking into account the fact
that its road receives absolutely
no attention from either the
county or the State Highway
commission, the Howell's Point
community has made more real
progress than any other section
of Brunswick during the past few
years.
Taking into account the fact
that there was only one home at
this place six or seven years ago,
the many well built and painted
homes there now afford a pleas
ing surprise.
In addition to the many Bruns
wick people who have property !
interests at Howell's Point, the
place has gained quite a number
of fine citizens from other sec
tions of the state. Among the
newcomers now having homes
there are Mr. and Mrs. Ray Rob
ers, of Kanapolis; Mr. and Mrs.
C. A. Roberts, of Gastonia; Mr.
and Mrs. Freeman, of High Point;
Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Hannah, Red
Springs; Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Bab
ington, Gastonia; Mr. and Mrs.
A. D. Whitley, of Baltimore; Rev.
Clemmons, of Reidsville, and
others.
Mr. and Mrs. Whitley acquired
property at Howells point last
August. In addition to a nice
home, they are just now complet
ing a small hotel. On part of the
lower floor they will have a ;
first-class 'grocery store, some- j
thing the community needs badly '
as it is now six miles over an
impassable road to the nearest
point of supply.
By those who know the place,
Howell's Point has always been
rated as the No. I fishing and
hunting spot in Brunswick. On
the north bank of Lockwoods
Folly river at its junction with
the inland waterway, it has un
surpassed fishing, and oystering
grounds. In winter the deep woods
